A lifelike panda mascot and 700 sculptures delighted visitors to Hong Kong’s Ngong Ping 360 cable car attraction on Saturday, as fans stopped to interact and snap photos.
But some said the city could do more than pop-up events to promote the bears and boost the panda economy.
The attraction is hosting the second stop of the “Panda Go! Fest HK” exhibition, organised by local art studio AllRightsReserved, with themed cabins being used for the coming two weeks and 700 panda sculptures calling Ngong Ping Village home for the weekend.
Passengers getting off the cable cars at around 11am were surprised by the ultra-realistic panda mascot, who gave them an enthusiastic welcome to the Lantau Island village.
With its fluffy fur, chubby body and big paws, the panda suit caused a commotion at the terminal as the lifelike bear waved to visitors and posed for pictures.
A 65 year-old woman surnamed Ha said she travelled from Macau to Hong Kong to catch a glimpse of the mascot.
