A knife-wielding man stabbed an officer outside of a Los Angeles police station, leading the lawman to fatally shoot his attacker in a terrifying scene captured on the cop's bodycam.
The suspect, who identified as 28-year-old Deyaa Abdelhadi Halaibeh, showed up at the front doors of Santa Monica Police headquarters and rang the call button as an officer was heading outside to talk to a separate individual, Fox News reported.
There were two additional people outside the station, prompting the officer to tell Halaibeh that he had to wait his turn before they could talk.
The officer's bodycam footage showed the suspect with his right hand suspiciously inside of his jacket, alarming the officer.
'What's in your jacket?' the cop said. 'I'm kind of nervous with your hand inside your jacket like that.'
'You're nervous?' Halaibeh responded before abruptly lunging at the officer with an eight-inch chef's knife.
Halaibeh stabbed and slashed the officer multiple times before the cop was able to run away and draw his gun as the suspect gave chase.
The struggle continued before several shots were fired, with the officer able to separate from Halaibeh and shoot him as the suspect held the knife in his hand.
Halaibeh, a New York resident who had no criminal history in California or any prior contact with Santa Monica Police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.
The suspect had stolen the knife he used from a Target store minutes before the attack, assaulting an employee in the process, Fox reported.
