CV NEWS FEED // On World Day of the Poor this Sunday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan will bless food that New York’s Catholic Charities will distribute to the needy for Thanksgiving celebrations.
A press release signed by the Cardinal reports that he will bless the food November 17 outside of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, ensuring “that many of our neighbors will be able to share with their families in the festivities of this holiday.”
He added, “As you prepare to gather around your own Thanksgiving tables, I ask you to remember and pray for those getting by with less, whom we are called to love and serve.”
The Cardinal wrote that the World Day of the Poor is “a timely reminder that too many here at home, as well as globally, struggle each day for their daily bread and much more.”
Cardinal Dolan then reflected on the positive impacts of Catholic Charities, stating that the organization helps those in need to pay rent, live in safe homes, learn English, be prepared for the work force, and stay united with their families.
“Catholic Charities’ help is provided in a way that hope is created for a better future,” he said. “For this I give thanks to God.”
