An elderly Boston woman died after being mauled by her own dog that went on to attack two police officers.
Jeriline Brady McGinnis, 74, was brutally attacked by her pit-bull mix dog inside her Roxbury home on Monday, while her husband sustained injuries trying to save her.
When police responded to the gory scene around 5 pm, they discovered a woman in critical condition and her husband with non-fatal injuries, the Boston Police Department told Boston 25 News.
McGinnis was taken to the hospital but died shortly after.
'She got attacked some way and they ripped her arm,' her good friend and Boston civil rights leader Jean McGuire, 93, told CBS News.
Shocking footage of the scene after the police arrived showed the malicious dog attacking and biting two officers.
One of them shot the dog three times to make it stop attacking them. Animal control took away the dog that was shot along with three other dogs from the multi-family home.
Due to its injuries, the pit-bull mix dog was taken to an animal hospital and humanely euthanized with the permission of McGinnis' son.

The other pets are currently under the care of city's Veterinary Medical Director.
The Associated Press reported that Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin said 'officers made the decision to discharge and put the dog down'.
A neighborhood resident told Boston 25 News: 'I heard two shots, and I saw that the dog was down. About a minute or so later, less than that, I heard a third shot. It was terrible.'
McGuire - an activist and educator best known for being the first African American woman to earn a place on the Boston School Committee - owns the house where the attack happened.
She said she was walking her own dog when the fatal incident occurred. McGuire was the one who confirmed her late friend's identity.
McGuire told Boston 25 News: 'She’s a wonderful person. A very generous, a very loving person. Loved animals.
'I’ve lost my sister.'
Civil rights activist and good friend of McGinnis said the 74-year-old was 'a sister' to her
This isn't the only act of violence that has up-ended the lives of McGuire and McGinnis.
In October 2022, McGuire was stabbed while walking her dog through Franklin Park.
McGinnis said her friend had been walking her dog in that park for decades.
She exclaimed: 'What did he want? Dog walkers don´t carry money. We carry poop bags and ID. That´s all he´s going to get. Unless he felt the urge to just beat up somebody who´s defenseless.'
McGuire was unconscious when police found her after the stabbing, but her injuries were not life-threatening, police reported.
Milly Arbaje-Thomas, the CEO of the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, which McGuire helped create, said at the time: 'We're all very saddened by this news, very shocked.
'She's a woman who has dedicated her life to educational equality.'
This heartbreaking dog attack comes after a Florida step-mom has been accused of prompting a Rottweiler to attack her nine-year-old stepdaughter.
Tyshael Elise Martin, 34, was allegedly seen on the family's security cameras instructing the 103lbs dog to attack Jamaria Sessions on June 15.
Animal control came and took the injured dog, along with three others. The shot dog was put down
After the dog was finished, she kicked the little girl as she laid motionless on the floor, detectives who reviewed the footage alleged.
She then reportedly dragged Jamaria's unconscious body across the ground before hitting and shaking her, while possibly saying, 'I'm fixin' to kill her.'
Martin was arrested near her home in Montverde, Florida around 6 pm on August 28 and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
Prosecutors filed a notice of intent filed earlier this month informing the court they would seek the death penalty if Martin was found guilty.
