Police have ruled out foul play in the mysterious death of a Walmart employee who was baked to death inside a walk-in oven.
The charred remains of Gursimran Kaur, 19, were found by her mother inside the walk-in oven of the Walmart she worked at in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 19.
'The police investigation determined the death is not suspicious and there is no evidence of foul play,' officials said in a statement on Monday.
Kaur and her mother had migrated from India to Canada three years ago and both worked at the Walmart.
The store has remained closed following the tragedy, and has thrown out the walk-in oven.
Friends of the mother and daughter have shared distressing details of Kaur's death and her mother's involvement in finding her remains.
Kaur's mother was searching through the store for her after she noticed she had been missing for over an hour when she made her way into the bakery section.
Gursimran Kaur, 19, tragically died in the Halifax superstore she worked at in Nova Scotia
Kaur and her mother began working at Walmart together two years ago, shortly after arriving from India seeking new opportunities
There, a colleague noted 'leakage' coming from the walk-in oven.
By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, Kaur had died inside the appliance after her mother found her charred remains.
'Imagine the horror that her mother experienced - who herself opened the oven,' a spokesperson for the family said in a GoFundMe appeal.
'As you all know, her charred remains were found inside the walk-in oven in the bakery after a few hours.'
The GoFundMe has raised $190,000 to help bring Kaur's father from India to Canada.
Kaur's mother is reportedly 'traumatized' by the discovery.
She has been described as a 'watchful mother who breathes for her child's happiness.'
Kaur and her mother were well regarded members of the Sikh community in Nova Scotia.
While the exact brand of the oven involved in the incident has not yet been revealed, other Walmart stores around the United States are known to have ovens like the one pictured installed
'This family's sufferings are unimaginable and indescribable,' the Maritime Sikh Society Executive said.
The store was given an all-clear to reopen less than a month after the tragedy occurred.
As it prepares to open doors again, the Halifax store has confirmed that it will be removing its walk-in oven from the premises.
Amanda Moss, a Walmart spokesperson told the National Post: 'This is an extremely sad and difficult situation.
'Removing the oven had always been part of the standard remodel program we are implementing across the country.
'Now that the stop-work order has been lifted by the Department of Labor, the oven will be removed from this store and will no longer be used.'
