WEST VIRGINIA — Former West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans has formally announced his intention to run for West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s seat in the U.S. Senate in the 2026 election.
In his candidacy announcement, he called Capito a RINO (Republican In Name Only), stating that she stayed silent during a “secret vote” for Senate Majority Leader John Thune.
Evans said that Thune is a career politician and that he is poised to delay or obstruct President Trump’s future cabinet appointments.
Evans has thrown his vote behind Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, stating, “he’s one of us.”
Evans was the only elected official to be arrested and serve time in federal prison for his participation in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The self-proclaimed J6 Patriot calls himself an America First Republican, believing in big government and strict immigration control, as well as being a pro-life supporter.
Evans previously ran for U.S. Congress in 2024, but lost the primary to Congresswoman Carol Miller.

Bet all of a sudden Senator Capito will be voting FOR Trump's nominees.
Later see more primary challengers announce.
Thune' s up in '26 too, but with Noem moving to the cabinet he may opt to retire and run for governor.
