Pong Nan Yik-Pong, a Hong Kong singer who previously supported the 2019 protests, has said the West Kowloon Cultural District cancelled his shows in January.
He revealed the news in a joint social media announcement with Sunchase Productions on Friday, but did not specify whether the city’s premier arts hub had offered an explanation for the cancellation.
“We regret to announce that we received a written notice from the West Kowloon Cultural District on Wednesday, November 27, that it had cancelled the venue reservation for [the concert],” the statement said.
“For ticket holders, please refer to your notification email for refund details.”
Responding to inquiries from the Post, a West Kowloon Cultural District Authority spokeswoman said she had no comment on the hiring arrangements for any individual events.
Pong’s concert was originally scheduled for three nights from January 3 to 5 at “The Box” theatre in the district’s Freespace area, with ticket prices ranging from HK$780 (US$100) to HK$980.
The singer told local media he chose the venue in the hopes of performing for about 400 “genuine fans”.
