Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney could make his NFL return on Sunday after being elevated to the Cleveland Browns roster.

Toney was cut by the Chiefs back in August after a miserable final season in Kansas City before joining the Browns two weeks later.

In 2023, Toney was plagued by dropped passes and committed a crucial offside penalty in a late-season loss to the Buffalo Bills, which wiped out what would have been a touchdown off a lateral from Travis Kelce.

Toney did not play for the Chiefs again after Week 15 against the Patriots, when he tipped a pass directly into the hands of a New England defender.

The Chiefs held Toney out of their final seven games, including their Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

That came despite the fact Toney traveled with the Chiefs to Las Vegas and practiced throughout the week.

But now he could make his long-awaited return to the field after being elevated to the Browns roster as a result of an injury.

The Browns downgraded offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. to out on Saturday afternoon due to a knee problem.

Toney, 25, is a former first-round pick who split his previous three NFL seasons between the New York Giants and the Chiefs but never established himself as a regular target for either.

The Giants chose Toney 20th overall in the 2021 draft out of Florida.

Between the 2021 and 2022 seasons, he appeared in 12 games for New York, starting five times and compiling 41 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns.

He was dealt to the Chiefs in October 2022 for third and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft.

With Kansas City, Toney logged 41 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games.

To his credit, Toney was a major factor for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

He grabbed a five-yard touchdown pass that lifted Kansas City to the lead early in the fourth quarter.

Soon after, he set a Super Bowl record by returning a punt 65 yards to the Eagles 5-yard line. The Chiefs ended up winning 38-35.

The Browns are due to play the Chiefs on December 15.
