Dramatic video footage captured the moment a Michigan man's plan to flee police on his lawnmower backfired and instead led to him shooting himself in the hand.
Mitchell Kerr, 41, of Jackson County, was arrested on charges of assault with intent to murder, carrying a firearm in the commission of a felony and resisting arrest - all of which stemmed from a previous arrest warrant in September for allegedly violating probation and failing to pay child support, Police 1 reported.
Deputy Robert Henderson, of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, found Kerr riding in his lawnmower that he refused to get off of - and instead began accelerating his speed as the deputy chased him on foot, while repeatedly screaming at him to stop the vehicle.
The body-cam footage showed Kerr only stopping once his getaway lawnmower hit a ditch, where he can then be heard telling the officer to calm down as he slowly got off the vehicle with his hands in the air.
Kerr slowly backed up before reaching next to his seat - and a second later, he was captured pulling out a black handgun.
But a gunshot was then heard - and the footage showed the moment Kerr accidentally shot himself in the hand while being tased.
The video concluded with Henderson notifying other officers that shots were fired and called for backup - all while Kerr remained on the floor with a bloodied hand in the air as he continuously groaned in pain.
Kerr was taken to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries before he was transferred and booked into Jackson County Jail.
