Hong Kong police have arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly ran onto a road, pressed the emergency door release on a bus and verbally abused the driver on Christmas Day.

The man was detained in Tuen Mun at 5pm on Saturday on suspicion of disorderly conduct following a report and a review of closed-circuit television footage, police said on Sunday.

A video circulating online shows a man rushing onto a lane at the intersection of Nathan and Peking roads in Tsim Sha Tsui at around 10pm on Christmas Day to stop a KMB route 260X double-decker bus travelling to Po Tin Estate in Tuen Mun.

The footage shows the man pressing the bus’s emergency door release near the front door twice and verbally abusing the driver.

KMB earlier said that when the 260X bus from Hung Hom station reached traffic lights near Peking Road, a man suddenly rushed onto the lane and started hitting the vehicle.
