Serena Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, underwent surgery after a cancer scare.
“After tracking some suspicious nodules on my thyroid for the last 4 years, I recently got half of it surgically removed,” Ohanian, 41, wrote on Instagram Thursday alongside a selfie in a hospital bed as well as photos of his and the tennis champ’s daughters, Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1.
The entrepreneur explained that “the nodules were getter bigger & the latest biopsy revealed they’ve very likely turn cancerous” before noting that cancer runs in his family.
“My mom had breast cancer around this age (41) and then ultimately died from brain cancer a decade or so later,” he explained. “I hate cancer.”
Ohanian, who posted the missive on Thanksgiving, noted that he was “extra grateful” because he “got the call this morning that [his] now-removed-half-of-thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous.”
He joked that the worst part of the surgery was being unable to lift weights for two weeks but vowed to “be back at it next week.” He also shared that he recently took his girls to Disney World, “so life is wonderful.”
“To my fellow, men — make those doctor’s appointments — especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone,” he concluded.
The revelation comes after the investor shared his Lyme disease diagnosis in July, saying it had been detected after he underwent a full-body scan.
“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease,” he wrote on X.
“Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.”
Ohanian ended the statement on a cheery note.
“Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics — can’t keep me down, tick!” he wrote alongside a GIF of the Tick cartoon character.
Ohanian has been married to Williams, 43, since 2017.
