Another phishing scam targeting you

It’s hard to ignore the rise of phishing scams these days. They seem to pop up in our inboxes with alarming frequency. As we become more aware of these deceptive tactics, scammers are also upping their game, using increasingly sophisticated methods to lure in unsuspecting victims.

One particularly sneaky tactic involves impersonating a help desk or support team. You might receive an email claiming that your Microsoft 365 account is set to expire today.

The goal? To create a sense of panic and urgency, prompting you to act quickly without thinking. So, how do you recognize these scams and protect yourself from falling victim to them? Let's go down that road to keep you safe.

My email address is (somebody) @webtv.net.

Since webtv ceased operations decades ago it is kinda amusing when I am notified that webtv is having technical issues.

I laugh when they send me an email on the email account I own and say the admin is concerned about something. I own the website, and I am my own administrator.

I didn't think it was possible to use email from a provider no longer in business.

So I AI'd it.

If you had a WebTV email account, it's important to note that the service officially ceased operations on September 30, 2013. This shutdown included the discontinuation of all associated services, including email access. Therefore, you will not be able to receive emails at a WebTV address anymore.

However, prior to the shutdown, Microsoft allowed users to migrate their data and accounts to their Outlook service. If you had followed this process and migrated your WebTV email to Outlook.com, you would still have access to your emails through that platform.

To check if your WebTV email has been migrated or to recover it, you can visit Outlook.com and use the "Can't access your account?" link for assistance.

If you did not migrate your account before the shutdown, unfortunately, your WebTV email is no longer accessible.

Scambaiting is a great hobby.

If I’m having a slow day, I call these slime bags and give them my name - Jimmy Snuka, Fred Garvin, Captain Lou Albano etc.

I ask to speak with someone about my account. I then tie these bastages up for a while with nonsense, eg My address is 1313 Mocking Bird Lane or 1060 West Addison in Chicago. I may mess up the spelling or get a number or three wrong and start from the beginning.

The longer I can tie them up, the less time they have to rip off the elderly etc.
