More than 1,000 people have been reported unaccounted for in a devastated North Carolina county where 10 people have already been confirmed dead after Hurricane Helene, officials said Sunday.

Authorities in Buncombe County reported the horrifying toll in an emergency meeting announcing emergency medical shelters and ongoing rescue efforts in areas almost overwhelmed by stormwater.

They also announced a special website to appeal for help finding those unaccounted for — with “more than 1,000 reports so far,” one local official told the live-streamed meeting.

“We’re doing the best we can,” Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller said of conditions making it almost impossible to reach the stranded due to collapsed roads, failing infrastructure and widespread flooding.

Many of the unaccounted for are hoped to just be those without electricity and efforts to let loved ones know they are safe, officials said.

However, the county, home to Asheville, already has 10 of the Tar Heel State’s 11 confirmed deaths — a terrible toll expected to soon rise, Gov. Roy Cooper conceded.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Hopefully, the majority of the missing are just having communication issues and can't contact their loved ones.

However, I'm already seeing reports of bodies being found in trees and submerged vehicles.

My niece and her daughter are okay but miserable. "No water, no lights, no AC, no service, but otherwise okay".

A friend is making his way to them to take them back to his house.

Meanwhile, Biden is at the beach at Harris is in California at a fundraiser.

This is what the Democrat candidate for NC attorney general posted:

I’m hearing the main issue for Asheville right now is water. Their main treatment plant is out and it could be several days until it’s back online. No one is panicked, but it’s a clear and urgent priority. Lots of folks focused on this right now, but it’s still a problem.

“Hearing”? Has he not done any personal investigation as to what is happening in his state? “No one is panicked?” Hundreds of thousands of people are panicked!

“The main issue for Asheville right now is water”??? Yeah, most of the town is under water! Forget the water treatment plant for the time being. It may be under water as well.

Talk about missing the issue. This guy is clueless.

Right now there are people missing, roads washed away, and homes under water, and he “hears” that the main problem is the water treatment plant is “out”.

How disconnected from the voters and their urgent issues can one person possibly be?
