Two Hong Kong men have been arrested in the past two days for allegedly flying drones near one of two warships from the People’s Liberation Army Navy that arrived last week on a port call.
Amphibious assault ship Hainan and Changsha, a destroyer, arrived in Hong Kong for a five-day visit on Thursday.
Hainan is docked at the China Merchants Wharf pier in Kennedy Town while Changsha is at Stonecutters Island military pier, with a temporary restricted flying zone set up by the Civil Aviation Department around the former.
Police said the two men, aged 35 and 18, were arrested on Friday and Saturday respectively at the China Merchants Wharf pier for allegedly violating operating requirements under the Small Unmanned Aircraft Order.
Two drones were seized at the scene.
The pair were released on bail and must report to police in late December. The police force’s Western district criminal investigation department is handling the case.
