A rare newborn lamb, valued at up to $25,000, has gone missing from a farm in the Adelaide Hills, Australia. The owners suspect the animal may have been stolen. This is reported by ABC.
Veterinarian and farm owner Madeleine Babos stated that the lamb was born last week but disappeared a few days later. She does not consider a predator attack the most likely cause, as the incident occurred during the day and other lambs were present in the pasture.
The Valais Blacknose is a Swiss sheep breed known for its thick white wool, dark face, and spiral-shaped horns. These sheep were first imported to Australia in 2020 and have since spread to several other states.
Madeleine Babos and her partner, Alasdair Rogers, began breeding the animals as a long-term investment. They purchased the missing lamb’s mother—nicknamed “Sugar”—for $25,000.
The owners noted that police informed them that livestock theft is a common occurrence. The couple is asking anyone who spots the lamb to contact the police. The animal has distinctive markings that will aid in its identification.
