Well, it happened.
Michigan Democrats just nominated Abdul El-Sayed for the United States Senate.
He beat Haley Stevens by about a point, going up against a Democratic establishment that spent months and millions trying to stop him. In November, he faces Republican Mike Rogers in a race that could decide who controls the Senate.
Here's the part that should get your attention: a few weeks ago, almost nobody was telling you what this man actually believes.
We were. On July 15, we laid out his record.
June 2020: "I believe that we do need to defund the police." He has since deleted at least a dozen posts saying so.
August 2020, on a webinar with a prison abolition group: he endorsed "any and all efforts to get people out of jails and prisons."
Medicare for All "from cradle to grave" — while his wife's psychiatric practice accepts no insurance at all, Medicare included.
$200,000 into the super PAC backing him, from his father-in-law, who sits on the founding committee of an organization a federal judge said had "ample evidence" linking it to Hamas.
An April campus rally alongside Hasan Piker, who idolizes China’s murderous, Communist leader Mao Zedong and believes America deserved 9/11.
El-Sayed headlined fundraising cruises in 2019 for Islamic Relief USA, and that one event featured a speaker who urged Muslims to "stand with" Hamas and Hezbollah.
He received $115,000 from at least 41 individuals who work for, formerly worked for, or held leadership positions at the terror-linked CAIR, a US Muslim civil rights organization.
El-Sayed refused to comment on the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, knowing that many muslims in Dearborn were upset about it.
A former campaign staffer of his was indicted in June over an alleged coordinated effort to threaten Jewish officials and groups at the University of Michigan.
None of that was buried. It sat in public for years, waiting for somebody to bother to look.
And starting now, El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee. This means the media’s strategy worked, running three months of profiles explaining that his "defund the police" comment was really about school funding, and that a candidate socialists worked to elect was simply a thoughtful public health expert who wants to lower your premiums.
There are a few things to learn from this.
The first is that the Democratic Party is rudderless and is being seized by radical leftists aligned with Islamism and communism. We’re not even being hyperbolic here — many DSA members openly call themselves communists and express contempt for the West.
The second is that the party's moderate wing — which just lost this race, and has been losing races across the country — isn't going to fight back.
Haley Stevens conceded as soon as the race was called, phoning El-Sayed and then issuing a statement urging Democrats to rally around him and beat Republican Mike Rogers in November.
He’s also just a larger piece of the trend.
Zohran Mamdani, a DSA member, has been running New York City since January. In June, he endorsed three insurgent House candidates in New York primaries. All three won.
In Lansing, Sunrise Movement co-founder William Lawrence — also DSA — just took Michigan's 7th District primary, beating a former US ambassador to Ukraine and a former Navy SEAL. Bernie Sanders and Rashida Tlaib backed him.
In Wisconsin, Francesca Hong is the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for governor. She's a DSA member with a radical record of calling to abolish the police and fixating on her child’s “whiteness,” running to lead a state Donald Trump carried twice.
Four years ago these people had no political power. Now one runs the largest city in America, one is a Senate nominee in a swing state, and two more are a general election away from a governor's mansion and a House seat.
Look at the rest of Tuesday night. Donavan McKinney, a DSA member, knocked off a sitting congressman in Detroit. William Lawrence took the nomination in the Lansing seat. A DSA member ousted an incumbent state rep, a co-founder of the Uncommitted Movement won a state senate nomination, and a socialist is now the Democratic nominee for mayor of Ann Arbor.

These were not five separate insurgencies that happened to peak on the same night. It's one operation that has the same wealthy, radical donors, looking to fundamentally transform America.
