“Nashville” actress Hayden Panettiere died Sunday at the age of 36 after being found “unresponsive.”
An unidentified friend phoned 911 at 1:51 pm from a Grenville, South Carolina, apartment, requesting assistance, according to TMZ.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the star with “advanced cardiac life support,” which may include breathing tubes, defibrillators, and emergency medication, according to the New York Post.
Chest compressions were also performed, but despite best efforts, Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 pm, five days shy of her 37th birthday.
“Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a Greenville police spokesperson told NBC News.
“The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. “
The police representative continued, “The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call.” (RELATED: ‘Pulled Through A Windshield’: Country Music Star Injured In Tour Bus Crash)
Panettiere grew up in front of the camera, and starred in commercials as an infant. She made her first appearance on the soap opera, “Days of Our Lives,” when she was just four years old.
She is most recognized for playing Claire Bennet in “Heroes,” Juliette Barnes in “Nashville,” and for her role in “Scream VI.” In her youth, Panettiere also featured in the highly successful film “Remember the Titans” and had multiple guest appearances on the hit show “Malcolm in the Middle.”
The actress openly discussed her issues with mental health and addiction in her recently released memoir, “This is Me: A Reckoning.”
Panettiere is survived by her 12-year-old daughter.
Her official cause of death has not been determined as of early Monday morning.
