Democrats have been caught doing the very thing they’ve been accusing President-elect Donald Trump of doing: Cutting Social Security.
On Wednesday, the U.K. Daily Mail reported Senate Democrats are trying to push through a Social Security reform bill they want to see signed by President Joe Biden before Trump takes office.
The Social Security Fairness Act aims to repeal provisions that reduce payouts to public sector employees like police officers, firefighters, teachers, and post workers. The Mail cites The Committee for a Responsible Budget in their article, and that group states this would make Social Security insolvent six months earlier than current projections by giving increased benefits to 3 million people who paid into their state or local pensions that did not pay Social Security.
The CRFB also states, “As a result, we estimate a typical dual-income couple retiring in 2033 would see their benefits cut by an additional $25,000 over their lifetime.”
The think tank says if Social Security runs out of money under this bill, as much as $400,000 in benefits would be lost for the average couple. CRFB states the cost for the bill over the next decade — citing the Congressional Budget Office — would be $190 billion.
After already passing in the House of Representatives, the push for a vote in the Senate comes from Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer while Republican Sen. Rand Paul wants to add an amendment to the bill gradually raising the age of retirement to 70.

No reason whatsoever that govt workers should get one penny of SS not paid into.
To: stanne
It was reasonable when it started; only people who actually paid into it could collect, and the earliest collection age was higher than the average life-span. And then the politicians got their hands on it. An actual SS Lockbox would have helped as well, instead of just being a campaign talking point during one election cycle.

People who haven’t paid in should not be able to take anything out. That’s what needs to change.

This story is dishonest.
Lots of loaded language and falsehoods here. Say someone earns a state or local pension, and did not pay into SS during that time. Then afterwards, they also earn their 40 quarters of SS. The earnings of those quarters assign them a monthly SS value. The government currently steals about half of that. If that same person earned the same 40 quarters, but without another pension, they would get the full amount of SS.
This law merely allows someone to get whatever SS their contributions earned regardless of other work they did in their life.
That is why it passed with giant margins.
Endless hundreds of billions for Ukraine, Afghanistan, Gaza, mass immigration etc. but God forbid retirees get the exact SS their contributions earned them.
And of course, while they were cheating retirees out of half, illegal aliens were getting full ride disability without paying a day into social security.

Whether Trump himself wishes or intends to cut Social Security benefits might well be moot, rendered so by the bond market that walks away from the fed's bond window pitching the economy and the nation into extremis, leaving no choice but to touch the third rail of American politics.

Every dollar you earn in investment return or any other source over a certain amount reduces your social security benefit amount, dollar for dollar. At least that’s what they tell me......
