AI giant Anthropic quietly files for blockbuster stock market debut

AI powerhouse Anthropic, valued at around $965 billion, has quietly filed for a confidential initial public offering, the company confirmed on Monday.

The move puts the firm behind its Claude chatbot on track for a potential stock market debut as early as this autumn - although the final timing will depend on market conditions.

In a statement, the company said its plans are still flexible and could change depending on investor appetite and broader economic factors.

The filing comes amid a wave of mega tech listings expected this year. 

Elon Musk's SpaceX is reportedly preparing what could become the biggest IPO in history, with a possible market debut as soon as next week.

Meanwhile, rival AI firm OpenAI is also said to be gearing up for its own IPO filing, according to reports, setting the stage for a fierce public-market battle between some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, including brother and sister Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. 

It is best known for developing the Claude family of AI chatbots, designed to compete with systems like ChatGPT. 

The company focuses heavily on AI safety and 'constitutional AI,' a method aimed at making models more reliable and easier to control. 

Backed by major investors such as Amazon and Google, Anthropic has quickly become one of the leading players in the global AI race. 

The AI race has become a high-stakes battle between tech giants and fast-moving startups to build the most powerful artificial intelligence systems. 

Companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are pouring billions into the scramble to dominate the next era of technology.
