Today show's Al Roker has shared his secret to keeping fit and healthy months after opening up about battling a food addiction 'unlike any other.'

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com on Tuesday night at the network's special Start Today event in honor of their new health and wellness app launch, the 70-year-old weather presenter revealed he is committed to walking.

Al divulged that he has a goal to walk over 10,000 steps every single day – and that he even wakes up extra early to make sure he's well on his way to achieving his target.

'I try not to go hog wire. I just like to work things in,' he said. 'That's why I like to walk.'

Al continued: 'You can walk to other things to go do stuff.

'I mean, I was running a little behind, but normally, I would have taken a walk to the subway.

'I would have walked to the subway from home and walked over here. Today, I've done 15,000 steps.'

Explaining how he manages to meet his daily goal, Al said: 'I get up in the morning and I try to do a mile before I leave for work on a treadmill.

Today show's Al Roker has shared his secret to keeping fit

The 70-year-old weather presenter revealed to DailyMail.com that he is committed to walking

'Today, I had a doctor's appointment, so I walked to the doctor, walked back to work, and I walked home. In the building, I've got a I've got a treadmill desk.'

Al's motto is 'something is better than nothing.'

In November, Al opened up about the realities of battling a food addiction and admitted he doesn't 'judge anybody' who turns to weight loss drugs such as Ozempic in order to shed the pounds.

'I'm not gonna judge anybody.

'Listen, it's unlike any other addiction or dependence.

'You can live without alcohol, you can live without cigarettes, whatever that drug of choice is... but you've got to eat, and so for some people, it's just difficult,' he said.

'If this is what works for them, I mean, who are we to say, "Oh, don't do that."

'As long as it's safe and effective, good for you. I think everybody's journey is their journey.'

Al shared that he sets himself to walk over 10,000 steps a day, and even has a treadmill desk at his office

Al underwent a gastric bypass in 2002 after his weight reached 340 pounds.

The weather presenter's admission about his love of walking comes as the Today show launches its brand new health and wellness app, Start Today.

The app is packed with weekly and monthly fitness challenges, custom meal plans by registered dietitians, and daily inspiration and wellness tips from leading experts.

Users can easily track their progress, create grocery and shopping lists, and save recipes and meal plans.
