Romulus will soon burst into your living room. The seventh “Alien” installment will begin streaming on Hulu on Nov. 21.
The streaming release follows the film’s digital release on Prime Video and Apple TV last month, and ahead of its physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 3.
Directed by Fede Álvarez, “Alien: Romulus” follows a group of young laborers who decide to scavenge parts from an abandoned spaceship orbiting above their off-world mining colony. Upon arrival, they unwittingly unleash a colony of face huggers stored decades earlier for research. The film stars Aileen Wu alongside Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced and Spike Fearn.
The gruesome R-rated seventh installment topped the box office upon its theatrical release in August, collecting $41.5 million, marking the second-highest start in the long-running “Alien” franchise.
In his review of the film, Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote that the series’ “primal show and awe is gone, but it’s a good video-game horror ride.”
“It’s a confidently spooky, ingeniously shot, at times nerve-jangling piece of entertainment,” he writes.
The 4K release, now available for pre-order on Amazon, comes as a double-disk SteelBook featuring custom artwork and bonus features, including interviews with Álvarez and Ridley Scott, behind-the-scenes footage and alternate and extended scenes. “Romulus” will also be released as a digital two-movie bundle with the original “Alien” film, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. The double feature will be available Oct. 15 in 4K UHD, HD and SD.
