All Atomfall endings explained

Atomfall features multiple endings depending on where your loyalties lie, but it’s not always obvious who can offer you an escape from the Quarantine Zone.

The ultimate goal of Atomfall is to power up The Interchange and access Oberon in the hope of finally getting out of Windfell. But the way you go about doing that is completely up to you, and there are different characters who can help you along the way.

Your choices directly impact how you escape and the fate of the zone, so here’s a look at all the different endings and how to get them. It goes without saying, but major spoilers ahead.

How many endings does Atomfall have?

There are a total of six different endings to find in Atomfall, all depending on which character helps you escape. These are all faces you’ll meet throughout your journey, but it might not be immediately obvious that they can offer you a way out.

These are the six possibilities:

  • The voice on the telephone
  • Joyce Tanner
  • Captain Grant Sims
  • Dr Alan Holder
  • Mother Jago
  • Dr Diane Garrow

How to get each ending

Simply put, you can unlock each ending by following every lead that a specific character gives you. For example, if you want to take the more brutal approach with Grant Sims, you’ll need to answer his request for information and follow his orders once you’ve won his trust.

Every character ultimately wants you to get into the Oberon site under the Windscale Plant, but how they want you to handle the situation and their plans afterward all vary.

Once you carry out their request, you’ll be met with a short outro that explains what you did and how the future of the Quarantine Zone has been affected. You’ll also be given a little breakdown of how you played, such as whether you went all guns blazing or took the pacifist approach, but this doesn’t change the overall outcome of the story.

Voice on the telephone

  • Destroy Oberon
    1. Arm four explosives around the dig site.
    2. Pull the self-destruct lever in the control room.

The mysterious man on the telephone is arguably the easiest ending to get, as all he asks you to do is destroy Oberon through any means necessary. So, once you’ve powered up The Interchange and the site opens up, you need to trigger the self-destruct to take out the rock and the plant itself once and for all.

To do this, make your way through Windscale Plant until you reach Oberon, where you’ll see the sample being guarded by three large B.A.R.D robots. Make your way to the control room and a note will reveal that the site is already rigged to blow, you just need to arm four explosives.

These can be found on large tanks around the outskirts of the rock, which we’ve marked on the map below:

Once they’re all ready to go, return to the control room, pull the lever to start the countdown and run for the exit. After the explosion, the phone will ring again and the voice will tell you to return to where it all began, meaning the bunker where you woke up in Slatten Dale.

Head back there and answer the phone one final time to trigger your escape and bring the journey to an end.

Joyce Tanner

  • Destroy Oberon and collect a sample.
    1. Arm four explosives around the site.
    2. Use two Atomic Batteries to power up the drill.
    3. Pull the Sample Extractor Console lever inside the control room.
    4. Use the Sample Grinder.
    5. Collect sample.
    6. Return to the control room and initiate self-destruct.

Joyce Tanner is somehow even shadier than the voice on the phone, but if you want to escape with her you’ll need to extract a sample of Oberon before destroying it. To do this, follow the steps to power up The Interchange and reach Oberon as normal.

Once you make it to the control room and you’ve armed all of the explosives, you’ll spot a second lever that lets you drill into the rock and collect a sample. However, it needs power first and will require two Atomic Batteries to work.

The first can be found in the storeroom just down the corridor from the control room, which you can pick up after taking out the Thrall guarding the room. Unless you happen to have a spare in your inventory, the second will need to be pulled from one of the B.A.R.D robots guarding the area.

This is no easy task, but if you focus on the robot closest to the entrance to avoid alerting its friends and weaken it with grenades from a distance you should be able to take it down. Be sure to focus your shots on the canisters on its back to trigger an explosion and deal huge damage.

Once you’ve got both batteries, insert them into the power station behind the control room, pull the lever to extract the sample, and collect it from the grinder. Then, back to Datastore Charlie to find a note with some coordinates in Casterfell Woods, where you’ll find Joyce waiting with a plane to get you to safety.

Captain Grant Sims

  • Destroy Oberon
    1. Arm four explosives around the dig site.
    2. Pull the self-destruct lever in the control room.
Captain Grant Sims in AtomfallRebellion

Of all the possible endings in Atomfall, Captain Grant Sims offers the most drastic. He wants you to destroy Oberon once and for all so that he and his army can finally escape, and he can wipe the entire Quarantine Zone off the map.

The steps are exactly the same as the voice on the telephone ending, only once the plant is destroyed you head back to the Village Hall in Wyndham. Here, a note will inform you that the Protocol have all fallen back to the camp in Skethermoor.

Head over there and a plane will be waiting to take you and the captain away. Sims then triggers ‘Operation Atomfall’ to “cleanse” everything and everyone in the area before cracking a joke about an omelet — which is in very bad taste.

Dr Alan Holder

  • Poison Oberon using Sample One
    1. Turn on the two Fire Safety System Valves.
    2. Insert Sample One into the Fire Safety Fluid Input.
    3. Pull the Fire Safety System lever in the control room.
Dr Alan Holder in AtomfallRebellion

The Dr Alan Holder ending provides arguably the biggest twist of the bunch, but many players might miss this one completely as he’s found in a secret lab under the St. Katherine’s Church in Wyndham Village. If you follow his questline, he then asks you to break to Dr Garrow out of the Protocol prison, before killing her due to her involvement in the disaster and her decision to leave shortly after.

His goal is to destroy the Oberon meteorite using the poisoned Sample One canister you collected from Medical. Like all the other endings, you must head under the Windscale plant and into the final area, but you’ll need to pull the Fire Safety System lever to spread the sample and kill it.

To do this, the first thing you’ll need to do is turn the two Fire Safety System Valves located on both sites of the Dig site. Then, head to the Fire Safety Fluid Input just outside the control room to the left of the crater and insert the poisoned Sample One.

Go back to the control room and pull the lever, deploying a green mist over Oberon that kills it. As you head back through the plant and to The Interchange, you’ll hear the voices telling you that you’ve made a mistake.

Once back in the main room, Holder’s voice can be heard over the Tannoy system, letting you know that he’s arranged an escape through the tunnels under Medical. Meet him down there, and he tells you that the voices in his head have started to vanish and that he hopes “our” blue eyes will also fade in time, indicating that you’ve also been infected by the soil.

The tampered sample also drops the interference field, allowing the outside world to come in and see exactly what happened here.

Dr Diane Garrow

  • Collect a sample but leave Oberon intact
    1. Use two Atomic Batteries to power up the drill.
    2. Pull the Sample Extractor Console lever.
    3. Use the Sample Grinder.
    4. Collect the sample and escape.
Dr Diane Garrow in AtomfallRebellion

Once you break Dr Garrow out of prison, it soon becomes clear that she played a key role in the incident that caused the Quarantines. If you want the ending that provides the most information on what exactly went down, even if you’re helping one of the people responsible, this is the one for you.

After going deep into Robotics to find her notes and Casterfell Dam Datastore to stop any information from escaping, she admits that Oberon was used to create the Atomic Batteries that allowed Britain to make huge technological leaps forward. However, Garrow and her team overreached, mined too deep, and caused the alien fungus to grow.

Despite all this, she doesn’t want you to destroy the meteor, she only wants a sample. So, exactly like the Joyce Tanner ending, you must power up the drill with two Atomic Batteries and use the grinder to extract a piece of the rock, but this time don’t blow up the plant.

Once you return, the Doctor asks you to meet her in her office down in Robotics, where you can get out through a secret tunnel behind the painting. Choosing this escape route leaves the quarantine in place, but the sample you smuggled out could lead to a bright scientific future for the country.

Mother Jago

  • Use Growth Stimulant on Oberon
    1. Turn on the two Fire Safety System Valves.
    2. Insert Growth Stimulant into the Fire Safety Fluid Input.
    3. Pull the Fire Safety System lever in the control room.
    4. Return to the caves under the Druid Castle to give yourself to the soil.
Rebellion

If you don’t want to escape at all, Mother Jago has the answer. Both she and the Druids who follow her have become completely obsessed with Oberon and the effect it has had on nature in the zone, and they want nothing more than to give themselves over to it.

After a few fetch quests, she eventually sends you into the Medical Tunnels to find a Growth Serum that she plans to sprinkle on the meteorite and help it consume everything. Once you make your way into the dig site under the plant, you can do this using the Fire Safety System.

This works exactly like it does for the Alan Holder ending, as you have to turn on the two valves on either side of the glowing rock to activate the system. The key difference is that once you get to the Fluid Input machine, you must use Growth Stimulant instead.

Go back to the control room and pull the lever, deploying a blue mist that causes the plants around the site to grow rapidly. Quickly make your escape and creepy voices will thank you for your efforts and urge you to offer yourself to the soil.

Head back to the caves under the Druid Castle, where Mother Jago is waiting for you. Rather than offering a way out of the area altogether, she claims that throwing yourself into the pit at the heart of the cave will set you free.

Make the ultimate sacrifice to “become one with the soil and the voice,” sparking wild celebrations in Castefell Woods. The outro reveals that Oberon will continue to grow until stopped, although it’s unlikely to consume the entire country as Jago may have hoped.
