All the stores and restaurants open and closed on Christmas Day 2024

Even the most prepared of Christmas shoppers and chefs can be caught out by a last-minute curveball. 

Fortunately several major grocery stores, restaurants and pharmacies will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year. 

DailyMail.com has compiled the ultimate guide to holiday hours and closures this Christmas. 

GROCERY STORES  

Costco

For last-minute Christmas bargains, the big-box warehouses will be open from 9am to 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Although hours may vary between locations so it is important to check local opening times.

The stores however, will close on Christmas Day. 

Aldi 

Aldi has limited opening hours varying by location on Christmas Eve and will close completely on Christmas Day. 

Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee will be open as normal until 5pm on Christmas Eve this year, however it will close on Christmas Day. 

Dollar General

The budget retailer will be open until 10pm on Christmas Eve but will close all of its 19,000 locations for 24 hours on Christmas Day.

Target

Most Target stores will also open 7am until midnight on December 23 and 7am until 8pm the day before Christmas.

However, all Target stores will close on Christmas Day.  

Walmart

For anyone desperate for last minute essentials from their local Walmart, the grocery giant will close its doors at 6pm on Christmas Eve. 

Walmart locations will then shut until Boxing Day, when they will reopen at 6am. 

It is one of the very few days of the year where the stores will shut completely. 

Best Buy

Best Buy will have extended holiday hours this year with most locations opening Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 9pm.

The stores will also be open until 7pm on Christmas Eve but closed on Christmas Day. 

Kroger

Most Kroger stores close early on Christmas Eve, 9pm rather than 10pm although that can vary depending on store division and location. 

All stores will then stay closed on Christmas Day, reopening with normal hours on December 26. 

Albertsons 

Albertsons is one of the only grocery store chains' that will have locations open on Christmas Day. 

Most of its stores will be open from 8am to 4pm. 

Safeway 

As Safeway operates under the Albertsons banner, its stores will also be open on Christmas Day. 

Whole Foods 

Many Whole Foods stores will be open on Christmas Eve with modified hours but this will depend on location, so check with your local store. 

However, all Whole Foods will close for Christmas Day. 

Wegmans

Wegmans holiday hours varies by location so it is best to check in with your local store. 

Some of its locations will be open on Christmas Eve from 6 am to 6 pm, and all will close for Christmas Day. 

Amazon Fresh 

All Amazon Fresh stores will be open between 7am and 7pm on Christmas Eve but will close for Christmas Day. 

Trader Joe's  

Trader Joe's will also have reduced hours for Christmas Eve with its grocery stores closing at 5pm. 

The chain will also close completely on Christmas Day but reopen on December 26 with normal hours. 

Meijer

Meijer stores will be closing early on Christmas Eve although local hours may vary.

The stores are open from 6am to 7pm on Christmas Eve. 

DEPARTMENT STORES:  

Macy's

For last minute gifts or outfits, customers can pop to Macy's until 7pm.

Stores are open 8am to 7pm Christmas Eve, but locations can vary so it is important to check online before you go.

Marshalls 

The chain stores will be open from 7am to 6pm on Christmas Eve, but will close for Christmas Day. 

TJ Maxx

Good news for last minute shoppers, most TJ Maxx stores will be open 7am to 6pm on December 24th.

Local hours may vary so it is important to check online. 

Kohl's

Most Kohl's locations will have extended hours from 7am to 7pm on Christmas Eve. The stores will close on Christmas Day. 

Nordstrom 

Nordstrom stores will remain open on Christmas Eve, however some stores may close early. It is best to call up your local Nordstrom to confirm their closing time. 

J.C. Penney 

J.C. Penney stores will be open on Christmas Eve from 9am to 6pm, but close Christmas Day.  

Big Lots 

All big Lots stores will open on Christmas Eve from 7am to 8pm. 

PHARMACIES 

CVS 

CVS pharmacy locations will operate with normal hours on Christmas Eve. 

But some non-24 hour locations may have reduced hours or holiday closures.
