AMD introduced the Ryzen AI Halo Developer Platform on October 12, 2026, according to a company blog post by Warren Eng, Product Marketing Manager. The desktop system is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor and features up to 192GB of unified LPDDR5x memory, positioning it as a local AI development platform capable of running large language models.
AMD states the platform can support 300-billion-parameter and larger language models at 4-bit quantization, a vendor capacity claim that has not been independently verified for inference speed. The unified memory architecture allows up to 160GB to be allocated to the GPU as VRAM, according to the October 12 announcement.
Hardware Specifications
The Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, verified on AMD's product page as of October 13, 2026, incorporates 16 Zen 5 CPU cores with 32 threads, a 3.1 GHz base clock and up to 5.2 GHz boost clock, 16 MB L2 cache and 64 MB L3 cache. The CPU cores use TSMC 4nm FinFET manufacturing. Default TDP is 55W, configurable from 45W to 120W.
Graphics are provided by a Radeon 8065S integrated GPU with 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 compute units running at a listed 3,000 MHz frequency. AMD specifies an XDNA 2 NPU delivering up to 55 TOPS, with 132 overall TOPS across the processor and 61 TFLOPS FP16 compute. Overall TOPS combines CPU, GPU and NPU performance and should not be confused with NPU-only metrics.
The platform supports up to 192GB of 256-bit LPDDR5x-8533 memory with 273GB/s bandwidth, PCIe 4.0, two native 40Gbps USB4 interfaces, 2TB SSD storage, 10Gbps Ethernet and Wi-Fi 7, according to AMD's platform specifications. These are features of the Halo system configuration, not universal attributes of every computer using the processor.
Performance Comparisons
AMD published internal testing from September 2026 comparing the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 against Intel's Core Ultra X9 388H and Apple's M5 Pro across multiple generative AI workloads in ComfyUI 0.37. The AMD system used 192GB memory with 128GB allocated as video memory and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1. The Intel comparison system had 64GB memory, Intel Arc B390 graphics and Intel Arc Graphics Driver 32.0.101.8991. The Apple comparison system was a MacBook Pro with M5 Pro, 20-core GPU, 64GB memory and Metal 4.
AMD reported higher relative throughput than the Intel system across tested workloads including Z Image Turbo, Krea 2 Turbo, Ideogram V4, FLUX.2, Qwen Image, FastVideo, LTX, ACE-Step, Stable Music, Microsoft Trellis and emerging 3D-generation tools. Against the Apple M5 Pro, AMD reported higher relative throughput across tested workloads, noting several workloads on the Apple platform did not run. AMD states performance may vary and results represent an average of multiple runs.
Software and Availability
The platform includes the AMD Ryzen AI Developer Center, which consolidates software, platform controls and updates. AMD provides preloaded applications and models, AI Playbooks for guided workflows, and validates ROCm software, drivers, frameworks, applications and models together as a Best-Known Configuration that can be updated or restored through the Developer Center.
AMD announced the Ryzen AI Halo is available for order from Micro Center as of October 12, 2026. Windows-based Halo developer platforms equipped with the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor and Windows Project Zenith are described as coming soon, with no specific date provided. On September 25, 2026, TechRadar reported HP debuted a ZBook Ultra G3a laptop with the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, 192GB RAM and 512GB SSD priced at $7,449.
