Ford is urging thousands of owners not to drive their trucks over a life-threatening suspension concern.

About 4,653 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles from the 2021 to 2026 model years in the United States are under a 'do not drive' advisory.

On some models, a part of the front suspension that helps with steering - known as the front lower control arm ball joints - may not have been assembled correctly.

If the critical part breaks while driving, the driver could face problems steering and potentially crash.

As a result, dealers are available to inspect the part on both the left and right sides - and repair as necessary at no cost to the customer.

Ford dealers will provide impacted customers with complimentary towing of their vehicles for inspection and repairs, if it's needed.

Owners also have the option to have their vehicles inspected at the dealership for free.

Customers can see if their vehicle is included in this recall (26S36) by entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) on Ford's recall website.

New Ford Broncos can cost $79,995 or more depending on the model and added features

Ford CEO Jim Farley has promised to improve build quality after the company recalled more cars than anyone else last year

The Ford Bronco, introduced in the 1960s, remains one of the most popular trucks sold by the American manufacturer.

This is just the latest recall in a string of setbacks for the automaker - Ford issued more recalls than any other car company last year, affecting close to 13 million vehicles.

In February, it recalled almost half a million Explorer SUVs after discovering a suspension problem that could affect steering.

Around the same time, Ford announced a separate recall affecting 40,655 vehicles over battery problems and brake pedal defects that could also increase crash risk.

Ford says the company's high recall number is due to a 'tougher approach' towards improving vehicle quality.

Half of its recalls are resolved without requiring a trip to the dealership.

But the improved vehicle quality comes at a cost.

A new 2026 model for Ford's F-150 XL starts at $39,330. The 'Raptor' version of the same truck costs customers about $79,005.

Ford is actively improving its technical operations by adding new technology and part screenings

Ford has made an effort to improve technical operations on its factory line by adding AI and parts screenings, to catch parts problems before they even reach customers.

Auto expert and World Car of the Year judge Lauren Fix previously told Daily Mail these safety problems can be 'concerning,' but recalls alone should not be a 'dealbreaker' when driving or choosing a car.

'What matters is how the company handles it and whether the specific model has a pattern of ongoing issues,' Fix said. 'Ford offers strong trucks and SUVs, broad dealer support, and competitive performance and electrified options.'

'Like many automakers navigating new technology and supply chain pressures, it has faced quality challenges in certain models,' she added.
