An American Airlines flight out of Dallas flew for five hours before suddenly turning around.

The maneuver left passengers in the air for nine hours, without ever getting to their destination.

One passenger took out their phone to record the experience and claimed flight staff didn't offer an explanation about the unexpected U-turn.

The woman posted to the video to her Instagram account, which she runs with another mother.

Identifying themselves online as Jimin and Jihye, the two tagged the airline in the post. It was published on September 10, and has 55,000 views.

One passenger took out their phone to record the experience , which she said was never explained.

'New fear unlocked: Your flight to Korea may go five hours and come back with zero explanation,' a caption seen in the clip states.

'Just relax,' the woman and others were supposedly told.

'American Airlines needs a lesson in effective communication.'

As these messages appear, images of the plane's flight path are seen on the screen on the seat ahead of her.

It shows how the plane had crossed the entire contiguous US, and was well over part of the Pacific Ocean before it abruptly turned back.

'They said it's bc of the right side of the bathrooms are[sic] are not working,' another caption claims as the footage continued.

'Pilot asked if anyone was carrying a Phillips screwdriver to help fix the bathroom,' it then incredibly states.

A series of question marks flash on-screen, to illustrate the situation's absurdity.

'The only vice I had available to me - Flaming hot Cheetos,' the woman then writes, over a snippet of her snacking in the dark as the flight made embarked on its long trip back to the Lone Star State.

'Needed a ramyun and a strong drink.'

The video then shows the plane flying over Dallas, where the pilot is heard remarking that there's 'clear skies.'

'Nine hours later we're back in Dallas,' she concludes. 'Lost [sic] for words.'

The woman went on to tag both American and Cheetos in the post, before posting a follow-up showing her enjoying a hard-earned meal.

It remains unclear whether staffers at the Airline have followed up on her complaints, but DailyMail.com has asked for clarification in a Monday request for comment.
