American Express Platinum card holders must do four things before the end of the year or lose $650 worth of points, a credit card expert has warned.
Jasmin Baron told Fortune magazine that four of the biggest Amex Platinum perks, worth approximately $649 in total, expire at the end of 2024.
'You have to be organized to get the most out of the Amex Platinum card,' Baron explained.
'Some perks, such as the airline incidental fee and FHR credits, reset at the beginning of the calendar year, so I make sure to use them as soon as possible to avoid missing out.'
Here are all the things you need to do to avoid losing the remaining credits:
1. Book a Hotel Collection or Fine Hotels and Resorts Stay
Amex cardholders are reminded to use their $200 annual travel credit before it expires
The Platinum card offers a $200 annual credit to Amex Travel.
The credit can be redeemed when you book a prepaid hotel through the Fine Hotels and Resorts or Hotel Collection.
Although the stay doesn't have to be completed before the end of the year, the booking does or the credit will be lost.
'The annual $200 FHR credit that comes with the card can be utilized on stays as short as one night,' credit cards expert Jon Nickel-D'Andrea told Fortune.
'Think of using your credit for a staycation or weekend getaway, and take advantage of the free breakfast, late check out, and an on-property credit.'
2. Make a purchase from Saks Fifth Avenue or Saks.com
Platinum credit card holders get a $50 credit to Saks Fifth avenue every six months
Amex Platinum also gives its users an annual $50 credit to Saks to use from July to December.
However, if you do miss this one the credit resets every six months so another one will be available for use come January.
3. Register for CLEAR Plus
Make airport travel a relaxing experience by using the CLEAR Plus annual credit
Amex Platinum members get a CLEAR Plus $199 annual credit covering the annual fee.
CLEAR Plus gives expedited entry to many airports around the world, meaning you can avoid long queues at security and tiresome ID checks.
All cardholders need to do is sign up with CLEAR and use your Amex Platinum as the payment method.
You also only need to do this once as renewals will qualify for the credit in the following years.
4. Use your $200 airline fee credit
One of the easiest ways to claim this credit is for seat assignments on upcoming flights
This is one of the more complicated credits to claim, but it still needs to be done before the end of the year.
To claim the $200 worth of airline incidentals you must first select your preferred airline in advance from a specified list.
Then you must use your credit towards airline incidentals that aren't flights.
Popular ways to spend the credit is for prepaid bags or seating assignments for an upcoming flight.
