A couple of American tourists have caused widespread confusion after gushing over the UK's 'most authentic' cuisine.

Amber Kacherian and Jared Gregersen, from Tampa in Florida, recently jetted to the UK for a month-long trip.

On the first day of their trip, they decided to take an Uber to a motorway service station at 1am on the hunt for a '24 hour Greggs' - after being 'recommended' a visit to the bakery chain.

When Amber and Jared realised Greggs was shut, they decided to try the Costa Coffee outlet next door.

Amber, an actress, shared her excitement after trying Costa's cheese and tomato toastie, saying it was the 'most authentic' food she'd tried since being in the UK.

But Brits were baffled that they'd given eating food from Costa in a petrol station such a gushing review.

Posting in a video on her TikTok account that has now racked up more than 800,000 views, Amber told her followers: 'This is probably some of the best food that we've had since we've been here.

'Our one o'clock in the morning random gas station food is the best that we've had so far on this trip.

Amber Kacharian was blown away after trying a cheese and tomato toastie from Costa, saying it was the 'most authentic UK experience'

'If this isn't authentic... I don't know what is. This is the most authentic UK experience we could possibly have. It's only our first day and I feel like a true England local.'

Brits soon rushed to the comment section both confused by Amber and Jared's love for Costa and the fact they were seeking out a Greggs at 1am.

They wrote: 'Baby why were you trying to go to greggs at NIGHT';

'I feel like McDonalds at 1 in the morning is more British then Costa';

'Service stations petrol stations aren't usually our go to places to eat out';

'We don’t generally go eat Costa at a petrol station at 1am, I wouldn’t say it’s an authentic experience. That would more be going out on a rainy day, buying Greg’s, bringing it home while rained on';

'Wow - gosh. Costa is the worst food. Hope you get to try some good stuff whilst your here';

'It hurts me that you went to Costa and didn’t get a coffee';

Amber and her friend Jared had travelled in an Uber to a motorway service station at 1am

'Petrol station shops are not “real shops” they are way over prices and normally a “little off” use the real shops in day time.'

While Amber enjoyed her toastie, Jared was equally impressed after trying Costa's sticky toffee loaf, saying: 'This is the best food I have eaten in the past 48 hours. It's delicious.'

Amber, wearing a hoodie reading 'London' in a bold font, began her video by saying: 'Everybody in my comment section has been saying that we should try this place called Greggs while we're here in England.'

She explained it was around 1am and they were on the hunt for a 24-hour Greggs. But despite a sign outside, it seemed to be shut.

'You guys, they're not open! We just took an Uber all the way over here at 12.30 in the morning for this 24 hour Greggs and they're not open,' she added.

Luckily, the Costa next door was still open, meaning Amber and Jared still got to try a 'British' meal.

In a British accent, Amber said: 'I ended up getting a cheese and tomato toastie and it was actually really good. It's pretty much a grilled cheese with tomato sauce on it. It was delicious, I scarfed it down and it's gone.'

'That's a good cheese toastie. Or, as we call them in America, a grilled cheese.'

Brits soon rushed to the comment section both confused by Amber and Jared's love for Costa and the fact they were seeking out a Greggs at 1am

The pair gushed over a low calorie bottle of Spite and a Coke Zero lemon ('we don't get these in America'), as well as the bottles' non-detachable lids.

It comes after an American woman sparked outrage for eating her fish and chips with her hands on a visit to London.

Allison Kuch, from Orange County in California, said she flew 'all the way over' to the UK to try the British delicacy for the first time.

She went to the Mayfair Chippy after seeing it on Instagram, explaining the name to her TikTok followers by clarifying: 'As in like fish and chippys.'

Mother-of-one Allison, 29, was clearly impressed by her meal and said it was the 'best fish' she'd ever had after trying it in a video

She explained that she'd only ever had fish and chips from McDonald's before, so was keen to try it the traditional way.

But her British followers were left horrified by the way she ate the fish, picking the whole fillet up in her hands like a gigantic chicken nugget.

Dangling the fillet in the air, Allison said: 'Look at this fish and chips! Are we joking?

'I flew all the way over here for this. This is officially the best fish I have ever had.'

Brits were left shocked by the fact that Allison hadn't chosen to cut up her fish with a knife and fork.

They wrote on social media: 'Americans on TikTok loooove to eat fish and chips with their hands??? Why? You’re in Mayfair? Did nobody give you a dirty look?? That’s craaazy but go off I guess lol.'
