Prime Minister Andy Burnham has hinted at fresh tax rises on Tuesday in his first speech at the helm of his newly formed Government.
Mr Burnham has announced a "10 year plan" and immediate measures to bring down the cost of living, promising to provide more details tomorrow.
He said: "We will bring life's essentials back under stronger public control to make them affordable for you again," but acknowledged that the cost to do so would need to be met with a clear plan.
