An apolitical family whose Marine veteran son was murdered in Mexico has revealed they are backing Donald Trump for the presidency.
Nicholas Douglas Quets, 31, was murdered along the Caborca-Altar Highway in the Sonora on October 19 in what is thought to have been a cartel killing.
Quets, a Marine veteran from Tucson, Arizona, was ambushed just 30 miles south of the border while taking friends on a beach trip.
His father, retired Lt. Colonel Warren Douglas, has told Fox News that he would be voting for Donald Trump after meeting him in the aftermath of his son's death.
He told the outlet: 'I am apolitical. But the facts of the matter are these: my American son, doing nothing other than going to the beach an hour from his home was executed by cowardly thugs.'

The elder Quets continued: 'This was the wrong Marine. This was the wrong family. This story will not go away.
'It won't go away next week after the U.S. elections. This story is going to push and push and push. No matter what happens next week, I am not letting this die.
'My goal for Nick is that Nick is the beginning of the end for the cartels in Mexico.'
According to officials, Quets was killed in a 'direct attack' by armed men who drove up alongside his vehicle and opened fire.
The family said that they had been able to meet with Trump's running mate Senator JD Vance during a rally in Tucson shortly after Nicholas' killing.
Speaking on stage, Vance said: 'I promise you the cavalry is coming, and when Donald Trump is president we're going to kick the cartels asses.'
After that, they then managed to meet with Trump ahead of his rally in Tempe, Arizona.
In contrast, the family said they had failed to meet with Democratic vice presidential Tim Walz, like Vance a veteran, when he was campaigning in the state.
According to them, they were turned away by his staffers after the event reached capacity, which has influenced their vote.
Quets said: 'In my family's greatest hour of need for an entity the only people in an elected capacity or a position seeking authority to run that institution came back to me and expressed concern and made commitments to me [on] how we'll make it better were Senator Vance and President Trump.

'I do believe in Donald Trump as a man of his word – not the TV character, not the billionaire – but a person who I looked at face to face and talked with.'
He added: 'America got a little bit weaker. My family was destroyed, but America got a little bit weaker.
'Mexico got a little bit weaker. Those cartels got a little bit stronger. And the only way to reverse that is to go after these people.'
Quets' brother in law Philip Sweet, a retired Air Force Capt., said he was disappointed after failing to hear from President Biden who was in the state last week.
He told the outlet: 'President Biden, he was in Arizona on Friday. We heard nothing. There was no outreach. There's still been no outreach.
'It's not because we're picking one side or the other. We're an apolitical family. Before this, you wouldn't have had either of us talk about our opinions.
'But what I can say is that our goal was to raise awareness for this. It's obvious to me and my family we have 100% confidence in President Trump and Senator Vance.'
The family said that after they showed Trump a picture of Nicholas he stared to tear up.
Authorities in Mexico have since said they have arrested an individual in connection with his death.
Francisco Federico, aka Delta 6, was taken in by officers and two others inside the vehicle identified as being the one used in the Quets' killing were killed.
His father is calling for his son's killers to be extradited to the US and is relying on the FBI to conduct their investigation.

According to the family, the US consulate in Mexico had helped repatriate his body after the killing as well as the State Department.
Sweet added: 'This is not just a border state issue. This is a national issue. This is a national security issue.
'One side cares about you, and that's President Trump and Senator Vance. They care about the American people.
'They care about my family. They care about your family. That's something that I think speaks volumes.'
A fundraiser to help his family with his funeral expenses has since raised over $6,000 since being launched last week.
