A former archbishop and top Vatican official who was excommunicated earlier this year has warned Catholics that Kamala Harris is 'an infernal monster who obeys Satan.'

Carlo Maria Vigano, who once served as the Vatican's Ambassador to the US, was kicked out of the church earlier this year for accusations against Pope Francis, of whom he is a fierce critic.

Vigano has previously expressed support for Donald Trump, warning the president in 2020 that the coronavirus pandemic and the George Floyd protests were part of a 'deep state' plot to hurt his re-election.

Now, he has published an open letter to Catholics telling them it is sinful to choose Harris over Trump.

'The choice is between a conservative president, who is paying with his very life for his fight against the deep state, and an infernal monster who obeys Satan,' Vigano writes.

He says that under Harris, America would be 'destined for invasion and for moral, social, and economic destruction: the most ferocious dictatorship.'

While he disagrees with Trump's positions on abortion and IVF, he still sees him as the superior choice.

'Voting for Donald Trump means firmly distancing ourselves from an anti-Catholic, anti-Christian and anti-human vision of society. It means stopping those who want to create a hellish dystopia that is even worse than the one announced by George Orwell,' he said.

He calls current President Joe Biden a 'a servant of this subversive elite and widely blackmailable for the scandals and crimes committed by himself personally and also by his family, beginning with his son Hunter.'

Harris, he alleges, is under the control of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jeffrey Epstein, Sean 'Diddy' Combs and George Soros.

Vigano says those controlling Harris are 'people devoted to evil, united by the satanic hatred against Our Lord Jesus Christ and those who believe in Him, mainly against the Catholic faithful.'

He added that Catholics can truly make a difference in swinging the election to Trump.

'Vote without hesitation, and pray that Our Lord will enlighten American citizens in making their choice and grant victory to those who, at least, have no problem proclaiming that Christ is Lord.'

Pew Research Center polls suggest Trump leads Harris among Catholics 52%-47%.

Archbishop Vigano was born in Varese, Italy, and was ordained as a priest in March 1968, before working as a Vatican diplomat in Iraq and Britain in the 1970s.

In 1989 Vigano was appointed as the Vatican representative to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

He was later the General of the Governatorate, looking after the Vatican finances, from 2009, before serving as apostolic nuncio in Washington DC from 2011 to his retirement in 2016.

Vigano previously called on Pope Francis to resign, claiming the pontiff knew of sex abuse allegations against Archbishop Theodore McCarrick but covered them up.

The Vatican rejected the accusation of a cover-up of sexual misconduct and last month summoned Mr. Viganò to answer charges of schism and denying the pope's legitimacy.

In a statement in July, the doctrinal office said his refusal to recognize and submit to Pope Francis was clear from his public statements.

'At the conclusion of the penal process, the Most Reverend Carlo Maria Vigano was found guilty of the reserved delict [violation of the law] of schism,' the statement said, adding that he had been excommunicated, or banished, from the church.

The Vatican dicastery's statement did not mention the Pope, but it is highly unlikely that the punishment was meted out without Francis's approval.
