Martin Daubney was left dumbfounded after a former Labour councillor insisted Sir Keir Starmer still has a political future.
The GB News presenter quizzed Simon Greaves on the Prime Minister’s prospects after expected leadership challenger Andy Burnham swept to victory in Makerfield.
Martin asked: “Is it over for Sir Keir Starmer?”
“No. There’s obviously going to be a lot of developments over the weekend. There are lots of frenetic phone calls. God knows what WhatsApp groups look like,” Mr Greaves responded.
“The Prime Minister's still there, has made it clear he wishes to stand, and he will be standing.
“This is very high-stakes stuff to say the least but it's not over by any means.”
An incredulous Martin shot back: “Are you serious?”
“Yes. The Prime Minister is in office, with everything at his disposal. He's made it clear that he's been working on a campaign team and bringing that together with all the background work that's needed.
“So I don't know what these conversations and all the developments from over the weekend will look like, but it's going to be very busy, and Monday will be quite interesting,” the former Labour councillor added.
