Mikel Merino was the hero for Arsenal as he scored the only goal of the game to seal a 1-0 win over London rivals Chelsea. Look back at the match with the best facts and Opta data with our Arsenal vs Chelsea stats page.
Arsenal secured a third successive Premier League home win over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a first-half Mikel Merino goal.
The only goal of the game came in the 20th minute, with the Spaniard expertly flicking in Martin Ødegaard’s corner with his head.
Although it extended Arsenal’s record as the Premier League’s most prolific team from corners this season (11 goals), it was the first that they have scored from a corner situation in all competitions in over two months. Their previous corner goal came against Spurs on 15 January via a Dominic Solanke own goal.
Chelsea came into the game without Cole Palmer, with an injury ruling the England international out of their starting XI for the first time in the Premier League since April 2024, when the Blues lost 5-0 to Arsenal in the same stadium.
Although not as bad as on that day, Palmer’s absence saw Chelsea look blunt in attack yet again, failing to touch the ball in the Arsenal box for the opening half hour of the game.
Enzo Maresca’s side failed to build upon their encouraging finish to the first half, struggling to threaten the home side too much after the half-time break.
Arsenal weren’t at their best either, but these three points see them move 10 points ahead of fifth-place Manchester City with nine games remaining and another step closer to confirming Champions League football for yet another season.
Chelsea have now won just two points from their last seven Premier League away games (D2 L5) and will be looking nervously over their shoulder. A trio of side – Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton – are all now within a win over overtaking them in the league table.
