Leeds took a deserved lead at the Emirates but Arsenal produced a champions’ performance to turn the game on its head and earn an important three points.
Bruno Guimarães came off the bench to complete Arsenal’s comeback as the Premier League champions returned to winning ways by beating Leeds.
Arsenal, who lost heavily at Brighton before the international break, were second-best for the opening hour at the Emirates Stadium, where James Justin put Leeds ahead.
Yet the hosts responded in style, with Riccardo Calafiori and Guimarães scoring in the space of eight minutes to seal the points.
Some early Arsenal pressure resulted in few clear chances, bar Bukayo Saka shooting at James Trafford from an offside position, and Leeds created the first opportunity when Anton Stach saw an attempt inadvertently blocked by teammate Jayden Bogle.
David Raya had to scamper back to his line to keep out Ethan Ampadu‘s looping header, before Gabriel Gudmundsson tested the Arsenal goalkeeper from close range on the cusp of half-time.
Ao Tanaka forced Raya into action shortly after the restart, but Leeds’ display was rewarded in the 55th minute, when Justin slammed in after meeting Gudmundsson’s cross.
Arsenal were level seven minutes later, however, with Calafiori’s somewhat tame volley still proving too much for Trafford to handle.
Calafiori then fired wide as Arsenal upped the urgency, but it was Guimarães – one of three substitutes to come on in the wake of the Gunners’ equaliser – who dealt the decisive blow when he slotted home following slick build-up play from Declan Rice.

— Opta Analyst (@OptaAnalyst) October 10, 2026Martin Ødegaard’s miss kept Leeds in contention, and Viktor Gyökeres failed to capitalise on another blunder from Trafford, but the visitors failed to find a leveller and their unbeaten start to their league campaign came to an end.
A Tale of Two Halves
It was just all too pedestrian and passive from Mikel Arteta’s men before the break, as Arsenal failed to score in the first half of a league game against Leeds for the first time since November 2020, and for the first time at home since January 1998.
In fact, it was just the second time since the start of last season that Arsenal had faced more shots (seven) than they had managed themselves (four) in the first half of a home league game.
Yet having created chances worth only 0.41 expected goals prior to the break, the Gunners clicked into gear once Leeds hit the front.
In the second half, Arsenal had nine shots, got five on target and registered 2.17 xG. Leeds, on the other hand, finished with 0.68 xG across the full match.
Calafiori’s equaliser was the turning point, and although Trafford could have done better, the Italian now has as many goal involvements in the Premier League this season (three) as he did in 26 games in the previous campaign.
Guimarães ultimately had the final say. Nine of his last 10 league goals have either put his team ahead (seven) or have been equalisers (two). He is the big man for big moments, and having that quality to bring off the bench proved decisive here.
Leeds gave their all, and for an hour, were the better team, though the Whites remain without a win in an away league game against Arsenal since May 2003.
