Assassin’s Creed Shadows players are left shocked over some of the game’s voice acting that has gone viral across social media.
It has only been a few days since Assassin’s Creed Shadows released on March 20, 2025, yet the latest installment in the franchise has already garnered an impressive player count, reaching over two million fans from all platforms.
In addition, despite controversies surrounding the game earlier, it currently has an overall “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with many players praising its beautiful graphics, combat system, and overall gameplay, among other things.
Though the overall reception is mostly positive, one part of the game left players shocked and baffled—and not in a good way.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows slammed for its voice acting
Since launch, many Assassin’s Creed Shadows clips have circulated on social media, but one that particularly drew a lot of attention was related to the voice acting, highlighting one scene in the game.
The scene shows Naoe interacting with a Food Merchant. It looks completely fine at first glance, but as the comments show, many players weren’t exactly pleased with how the English voice acting sounded once the NPC got to talking.
“I was waiting quietly in the dark, expecting to see some truly horrible voice acting from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but this is beyond unimaginable levels. LMAO,” said the user who shared the clip.

Another user wrote, “The vendor sounds like the dev team called her in the dead of the night to recite her lines on the spot. Lmfao, what is this? “
Another user joked: “This sounds like when the teacher in English class asks you to read a passage aloud.”
Meanwhile, others have also jumped into the comments to criticize the overall dialogue. “Mushrooms are the smell of dirt, grass, and rain? What?” one of them asked.
Regardless of the criticisms, however, many have also suggested playing the game using the Japanese voice for a more immersive experience.
