Asus has unveiled a new special-edition ROG Xbox Ally X handheld to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Republic of Gamers brand, bringing an OLED display to the device for the first time alongside upgraded controls and bundled AR glasses.

Dubbed the ROG Xbox Ally X20, the limited-edition handheld features a translucent black chassis with gold internal accents designed as a nod to classic gaming hardware. The anniversary model also includes new hardware upgrades aimed at improving display quality, performance, and portability.

The biggest addition is a new 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED display. The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision, and up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness, while retaining handheld-friendly features like anti-reflective Corning DXC glass.

According to Asus, the OLED panel required a redesigned thermal system to better direct airflow toward the AMD processor while helping keep display temperatures under control.

The handheld is powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, the same hardware found inside the original ROG Xbox Ally X.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 also introduces a new Transforming D-Pad. Users can switch between a traditional four-way layout and an eight-way configuration designed for fighting games. Asus says the face buttons have been redesigned to sit flush with the chassis, while the rear grips now feature a rubberized coating for additional comfort.

Another hardware upgrade comes in the form of TMR joystick technology, which Asus says offers improved precision, smoother tracking, and greater durability while eliminating stick drift.

The anniversary bundle also includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses. The glasses feature a virtual 171-inch display at a viewing distance of four meters, a 240Hz refresh rate, micro-OLED panels, and native 3DoF tracking.
