Kirk Cousins is not in danger of losing his place as starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons despite his nightmare form this season, according to reports.

Cousins has underwhelmed so far in his debut campaign for Atlanta, having failed to throw a touchdown pass in his last three starts - which is his worst return for 13 years.

He has also thrown a total of six interceptions in that span, despite only tossing seven in the previous nine weeks combined.

The 36-year-old is the first player to record over 100 pass attempts, zero pass touchdowns, at least six interceptions and one pick-six over a three-game span since Brett Favre back in 2005.

Yet despite his struggles, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport claims Cousins will not be benched for rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

'They do believe he will bounce back, they believe he'll be resilient,' Rapoport said on NFL GameDay Morning. 'They want to rally around Cousins.'

But reports suggest Atlanta chiefs are not planning to bring in Michael Penix Jr (pictured) just yet

Cousins is heading back to his old stomping ground on Sunday as the Falcons prepare to take on the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Atlanta is seeking its first victory in four games, which would hand them a winning 7-6 record and keep them top of the NFC South.

After Sunday's game against the Vikings, they will face three contenders for next year's No. 1 pick in the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Carolina Panthers in their final four games, meaning they

Though if the defeats continue to come, and Cousins continues to struggle at quarterback, Penix Jr, 24, may become a more appealing option for Falcons officials.

The No. 8 draft pick has barely featured this season while playing second-fiddle to Cousins, making just two appearances in blowout defeats to the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.

In those outings, he completed three of five passes for 38 yards.

'Michael Penix has really impressed,' Rapoport added. '[The Falcons] drafted him to be the quarterback of the future.

'That is just not now, and they do not believe this should be a discussion.'
