Atomfall is a brand-new survival game with a unique setting – Northern England after a major nuclear disaster.

Nuclear disaster is an ever-popular video game setting, with Stalker taking players to Chornobyl, Metro to Russia, and Fallout to post-apocalyptic America. But, following a real nuclear accident, Atomfall takes players to the quaint English 1960s countryside.

It’s not all scenic strolls and roast dinners though, the quarantine zone is a dangerous place. You’ll need to survive against enemies and the elements while trying to figure out what on earth has happened.

Atomfall release date

Atomfall releases on Thursday, March 27, 2025. You can play early by preordering the Deluxe Edition, which grants three days of early access, letting you start playing on Monday, March 24.

Atomfall is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Xbox app, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

The devs confirmed there are “currently no plans to release Atomfall on Nintendo Switch.”

Is it on Steam Deck?

Yes, it’s Steam Deck Verified. This means it should run well without any tinkering or major settings tweaks. With it still releasing on last-gen consoles, it shouldn’t be too demanding on the Steam Deck’s specs.

Is it on Xbox Game Pass?

Atomfall launches on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Whether you’re on Xbox or PC, you can start playing straight away as part of your subscription.

With Xbox’s first-party games, you can usually upgrade to the Deluxe Edition by paying the difference, but Atomfall doesn’t appear to have this option at the time of writing.

Developer

Atomfall is developed by Rebellion Developments. They’re best known for the Sniper Elite and Zombie Army franchises, with January’s Sniper Elite: Resistance being their most recent game.

What is Atomfall about?

Atomfall is an action survival game set in Northern England. Set in Cumbria five years after the real-life Windscale nuclear disaster of 1957, you’ll be trying to figure out what happened while meeting the wacky locals, violent cultists, and more.

Its similarities with Stalker and Fallout are clear but it’s very much its own thing, being more of a detective game with survival mechanics.

Is it open world?

Yes, Atomfall is open-world, letting you explore the British countryside at your own pace without tons of quest markers telling you exactly where to go.

Rather than one big map, it’s made up of several zones that let you freely explore “open moors, rugged hills, dense woodlands and the picture-perfect English village Wyndham.”

Atomfall can be preloaded now, with the PC version clocking in at a hefty 65.68 GB. If you’ve preordered the game, you can download it ahead of its March 27 release date.

Is Atomfall multiplayer or co-op?

No, Atomfall is strictly a single-player adventure without any multiplayer or co-op so you won’t be able to team up with your pals to survive and uncover the secrets.
