They say everything's bigger in Texas, but not according to a new ranking of penis sizes per state.
The adage would be more suitable for Alabama, Louisiana, West Virginia, Vermont, and Utah in this context. Men in these states have the largest penises in the US.
On average, males in these areas had penises that were between 6 and 6.9 inches in length when erect, according to a survey by a medical practice.
Bespoke Surgical surveyed more than 1,300 men about their penis size across every state. Surveyors collected the responses and came up with averages by state, ranging from 5.22 inches to 7.44 inches.
Averages lengths were shortest in Delaware, New Mexico, Maryland, Georgia, and Rhode Island, where they measured about 5.2 to 5.8 inches.
The practice’s findings should be taken as soft estimates. The survey, and many like it, rely on self-reporting and for respondents to answer honestly.
The researchers behind the survey acknowledged the very real possibility that men exaggerate the size of their members.
To address this, the researchers asked a second question: what length do they say their penis is at full erection when asked by potential partners, dates, or significant others?
While Louisiana came in among the states with the largest penises, it was also the top state for overestimating their sizes, as well as one of the widest variances of what they tell others, overshooting by an average of 0.92 inches.
Men in 12 states, including Tennessee, Washington, and Alaska, underestimated their penis size, with Rhode Islanders on average underestmating by over an inch.
According to Bespoke Surgical: ‘Start loving your penis just the way it is. After all, size doesn’t matter, it’s all about how you use it.
‘To us, there’s no such thing as a bad penis. You can be cut or uncut, have a slant or a curve, be a grower or a shower, be big or small, or even a little of everything in between, there’s one thing we can all agree on – every man should be proud of his penis.’
After the the five states with the highest average penis lengths (in inches) – Alabama (7.44), Louisiana (7.15), West Virginia (7.00), Vermont (6.98), and Utah (6.97) – came Oklahoma at a close 6.93 inches.
Next came Alaska at 6.92 inches, Florida and South Dakota tied at 6.85 inches, and Maine at 6.78 inches.
On the other end of the spectrum came Delaware (5.22), New Mexico (5.36), Maryland (5.50), Georgia (5.69), and Rhode Island (5.83).
Including those states, only eight states’ averages were below 6 inches.
The surveyors concluded that 38 percent of their respondents were less than truthful when disclosing the size of their member to a partner, with 26 percent exaggerating by an average of 0.98 inches.
The surveyors concluded: ‘Interestingly, we didn’t see a pattern or correlation between states and the average penis size by state, though the deep south was guilty of the highest exaggerations.’
Despite studies finding the national average to range between five and 5.5 inches, Bespoke Surgery estimated the average to be 6.41 inches.
They said: ‘But why do so many sources say 6 inches if researchers say otherwise? Well, many penis size surveys may suffer from volunteer bias.
‘Volunteer bias, in this case, could mean that men with longer penises might be more willing to volunteer for a length survey than men with shorter penises, which skews the data and makes the average seem longer than may actually be true.’
The average length of the American penis has been increasing over the past three decades.
Averages lengths were shortest in Delaware , New Mexico , Maryland , Georgia, and Rhode Island , where they measured about 5.2 to 5.8 inches. They were longest in Alabama, Louisiana, West Virginia, Vermont, and Utah
A meta-analysis by Stanford University researchers found the average erect penis jumped 25 percent in length from 1992 to 2021 — from 4.8 to 6 inches.
The researchers gathered measurements from 75 different studies conducted between 1942 and 2021. In total, they considered the measurements of nearly 56,000 men.
Over the entire 80-year study period, the average length was 5.4 inches while fully erect. That figure rapidly rose from 1992 to 2021, though.
While it may sound like great news for most modern men, the researchers cautioned that the underlying driver could be more insidious and pervasive, such as exposure to chemicals, sedentary lifestyles and junk food.
Dr Michael Eisenberg, a professor of urology at Stanford Medicine, said: ‘If we're seeing this fast of a change, it means that something powerful is happening to our bodies.’
