Jennifer English, best known as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, has stepped away from her role as Gwendolyn in upcoming action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation due to health concerns.
The Tides of Annihilation team confirmed the change in a statement on X, saying English informed them in early June that she could no longer continue in the role.
English elaborated on the decision in an Instagram story. “After careful thought, I’ve realised I need to take time to rest and properly look after my mental and physical health,” she wrote, describing the choice as difficult but “personally necessary.”
A new Gwendolyn steps in with English’s guidance
The development team said they fully understood and respected her decision. English will remain involved with the project in an advisory role, and worked closely with the existing cast to help identify her replacement.
Instagram: jenniferjenglishThe team has since found a new performer to take over the role, praising her recent video game work and the care she has shown in understanding the character.
English echoed that sentiment, saying she was glad to help introduce the actor to the team and praising her “passion, talent, and care for the craft.”
The replacement has not yet been named, but she is currently recording her performance ahead of the Gamescom 2026 demo, where players will hear the new Gwendolyn for the first time in August.
It is not the first time a voice actor has stepped away from a major role. Chris “Kirbopher” Niosi stepped down from Honkai Star Rail as Moze in 2024, though his exit came under very different circumstances following backlash over past allegations.
