New datamined Battlefield details suggest the next installment will include a Call of Duty-like Gunsmith system for weapon attachments.

Playtesting for the new entry kicked off early in 2025 via EA’s Battlefield Labs; it did not take long for leaked gameplay footage and screenshots to start making the rounds, either.

The pre-alpha footage showcased intense multiplayer gunplay and an impressive level of destruction that harkens back to the Battlefield 3 days. Meanwhile, other leakers have claimed controversial features like Portal and a battle royale mode will also return.

Now, new datamined information points to EA and DICE potentially exploring a weapon system reminiscent of Call of Duty’s Gunsmith.

Battlefield leaks hint at “MW-style weaponsmith” for next game

Datamined details shared in a Battlefield Discord server (via Long_Ad7536 on Reddit) have revealed a list of attachments for the HK417-A2 assault rifle.

Based on the leak, the new title may let players swap out a wide range of attachments for the AR that cover ammo types, barrels, grips, magazines, scopes, and more.

Similar files have appeared in the DecikTTV Telegram channel (via BatmanForce on Reddit), detailing attachments that include rail attachments, muzzles, stocks, and folded sights.

As many fans in both threads pointed out, this implies DICE’s next outing will introduce a Gunsmith-like system. Having debuted in Black Ops 3, the COD Gunsmith lets players customize their weapons across five attachments and various cosmetic options.

Battlefield 2024’s divisive Plus system served a similar purpose, though its Crysis-esque implementation didn’t feel suited to multiplayer gameplay since users could swap attachments on the fly.

So far, players at least appear interested in seeing how a full-on Gunsmith would work in Battlefield. Writes one user, “Massive W, honestly. The Gunsmith is easily one of the best parts of modern COD games. Can’t wait to see a Battlefield version of it.”

Another fan applauded the reported addition but stressed the need for balance, writing, “[the] gunsmith is long overdue for this franchise… hopefully attachments are mostly just cosmetic so there’s no meta…”

Notably, Battlefield developers have already warned players against taking leaked footage and the like at face value, so it’s best to consider all of the above with a pinch of salt.
