A Bahamas man accused of helping his ex-lover to try and take out a hit on her former NFL star husband has protested his innocence

Terrance Adrien Bethel, 28, shot down claims he helped girlfriend Lindsay Shiver in her unsuccessful murder plot against Robert Shiver

Speaking on Good Morning America, Bethel said: 'Nobody ever wanted him dead. I'm definitely not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, and Faylo is not guilty of being a hired hitman either. It's time to let the world know that we are innocent', he said.

The 'Faylo' in question is Farron Newbold, 29, who prosecutors claim was the would-be hitman. Cops uncovered the alleged plot before Robert came to any harm.

Prosecutors say the trio discussed the attempted hit over WhatsApp before Shiver sent a photo of Robert cozying up to a mystery woman to Newbold, adding: 'kill him'.

Lindsay, seen here with her estranged husband Robert, is accused of attempting to have him murdered alongside her then boyfriend Terrance Adrien Bethel and alleged hitman Farron 'Faylo' Newbold

Bethel told Good Morning America that the trio are completely innocent of attempting to have Shiver murdered

Sources previously told DailyMail.com that the images of Robert and the blonde haired women are the ones that Shiver likely sent to Newbold.

Bethel added: 'She sends the picture that was just sent to her, when she found out he was there and the kids were home, that's when she said kill him.

'Whenever she gets into an argument with him and she tells me about it, of course I am livid. But planning to murder him, no.'

He said that the text messages had been the two venting to each other, adding: 'Us loving each other was not a secret. She's my best friend still.'

Robert is now safely back in Thomasville, Georgia, with the couple's three young sons after Shiver was arrested last July.  She will stand trial in March 2025.

The alleged murder plot was uncovered by chance when cops began investigating a break-in at Grabbers, a popular waterfront drinking spot on Great Guana Cay.

They asked staff – including Bethel - to hand over their phones for inspection the aforementioned WhatsApp messages.

The trio were arrested and more incriminating messages were found on their devices.

Newbold is seen here arriving at court in the Bahamas last December, he is accused of being the hitman in the alleged plot

Shiver was held in the Bahamas since her arrest last July but a judge ruled that she could return to the US to see her three children over the holidays

Robert was vacationing independently of his estranged wife when cops contacted him to warn him about the plot.

When Bahamian authorities informed him of the alleged threat, he branded his wife 'manipulating' and speculated as to why she might want him out of the picture.

'She had an affair with an 18-year-old about a year ago and came to Abaco and snuck him into my house in Abaco,' his statement alleged.

'I found out about it through her Apple Watch and she convinced me that she wants to be a family so we tried to make it work.'

The marriage crumbled for good when he discovered his wife's relationship with Bethell in February, Robert said.

He accused his wife of drinking, making 'poor decisions' and falling in with an 'unpleasant' new crowd.

Robert also said was left 'in fear of his life' and flew back to the US with their kids shortly afterwards.

Shiver was held in the Bahamas following her arrest last July, but a judge ruled in December she could return to the US on certain conditions.

She is forbidden from being within 100 feet of her former NFL-player husband, must stay in the state of Alabama and was fitted with an electronic monitor.

The mother-of-three is only allowed to return to Georgia, where her husband lives, for divorce or custody proceedings.

She claimed Robert agreed to allow visitation rights with her children and accused him of later withholding access.

Robert is the son of Allen Shiver, who served for more than four decades as CEO of Flowers Foods before stepping down in 2019 from the $5billion company.

Robert played for Auburn University between 2006 and 2008 as a long snapper.

He signed with the NFL team Atlanta Falcons as a free agent following his college career but he was let go in the first roster cuts ahead of the 2009 season.

He is now dating Savannah Chrisley, whose reality TV star parents Todd and Julie Chrisley are currently serving lengthy fraud sentences.

Lindsay, a former cheerleader, was named Miss Houston County in 2005 and finished second in the National Peanut Festival pageant.
