The Issue: President Joe Biden commuting 37 of 40 federal death-row inmates’ sentences.

President Biden’s decision to commute the death sentences for 37 of the 40 inmates on federal death row is not only repugnant, but also illegitimate in the context of his explanation (“Mercy for killers,” Dec. 24).

Biden proclaimed his categorical opposition to the death penalty as his justification for this maneuver.

Yet he left three death-row inmates off the list.

He can’t have it both ways.

By leaving three inmates off his list, he belies his own explanation.

Biden has continued his campaign against the American people by pardoning 37 people from death row.

The criminals had the advantage of a trial.

Biden shows his contempt for this system, and pretends that he is above both juries and judges.

Civilized societies can do nothing but despair at this miscarriage of Biden’s “justice.”

What about justice for the rest of us?

We are now condemned to be subject to the actions of these evil people if they’re ever released.

Biden will go down in history as a destroyer of every decent principle.

Elinor Hite

Although it’s gratifying that three of the worst human beings on the face of the Earth were not included, I am sadly disappointed in Biden for commuting the death sentences of 37 killers.

He seized the wheels of justice from judges and juries who concluded that the crimes committed by those were sufficiently serious as to justify the ultimate punishment.

Is there any particular reason the soon-to-be ex-President Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 murderers, rapists and child-killers on federal death row just two days before Christmas?

Couldn’t Biden wait until after the New Year so as not to destroy the holidays of the families of the victims?

Barry Koppel

Kew Gardens Hills

President Biden is committed to destroying the country before he leaves office.

I don’t believe in the death penalty, but it’s our law.

And for some of these people, there’s no way their sentences should have been commuted.

The Issue: Chris Cillizza’s confession that he failed to cover President Biden’s mental decline at CNN.

Chris Cillizza’s confession represents a symbolic and long-awaited mea culpa by the industry. It also symbolizes the decay of journalistic integrity that has plagued the industry (“A Mental Mistake,” Dec. 21).

Perhaps more of the culprits will have the courage to come forward and eat crow.

Ronald Frank

West Orange, NJ

Had Cillizza reported the truth about President Biden’s mental state back then, maybe 13 more US military personnel would still be alive today.

I feel even more saddened for the 13 sets of parents who lost loved ones in Afghanistan.

By not reporting the true picture of Biden’s mental state, Cillizza and his press peers share some of the blame for those deaths.

Peter Incardone

Long Beach, NJ

Democrats, especially those in the media, insisted there was nothing unusual about President Biden’s incoherence and physical limitations throughout his presidency.

They have now confirmed what the less-gullible among us knew all along.

The Democrats and their media cohorts served up the greatest political scam in our nation’s history and propped up someone unfit to lead our great nation.
