CV NEWS FEED // Bishop Robert Barron is set to celebrate Mass March 4 on Capitol grounds for Catholic members of Congress, including Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., who is hosting the Minnesota bishop as his guest for President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress.
Bishop Barron is the chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, and Family Life. He is also founder of the online evangelization platform Word on Fire. In a March 2 press release announcing his guest for the address, Moore praised Bishop Barron’s evangelization efforts in the digital age.
“Through Word on Fire, Bishop Barron has helped countless souls discover, strengthen, or return to the Catholic Church by proclaiming the Gospel ‘through the culture,’” Moore said. “His use of contemporary media to reach people is innovative and highly effective.”
Bishop Barron’s works have helped Moore grow personally as a Catholic, the congressman shared in a statement on his personal X account.
I am honored to have you attend as my guest! We are all very excited. God Bless you and all your wonderful works that has drawn so many closer to our Catholic faith- including myself! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 https://t.co/6qrue7d4al
— Riley Moore (@RileyMooreWV) March 3, 2025According to The Hill, Trump’s address will outline goals for his second term and speak about the United States’ current status, similar to a State of the Union address. His speech will begin at 9 p.m. EST.
Moore was elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives last November, after serving as West Virginia’s state treasurer for several years. He said in the March 2 release that he is honored for Bishop Barron to be his guest, adding that he is “equally thrilled to have him celebrate the Mass for my colleagues and me prior to the speech.”
Bishop Barron expressed gratitude for Moore’s invitation both to celebrate Mass at the Capitol and to attend the address.
“I look forward to this opportunity,” Bishop Barron said, “both as a Catholic bishop and as an avid student of American history.”
