Treyarch revealed a new playlist rotation for Black Ops 6, and players noticed a surprising omission.

The game mode known as Gun Game first appeared in the original Black Ops game in 2010, and since then, it has appeared in every Call of Duty title and is consistently a favorite.

In it, players start a match with a pistol, and each kill upgrades their weapon. The game ends when someone cycles through the same set of 20 weapons, but the guns vary every game. It’s important always to keep your head on a swivel while playing Gun Game because constant radar sweeps reveal your location, and getting killed by a melee weapon sets you back one upgrade.

Several gun Game variations have existed over the years, but this is the standard format and what BO6 uses. Players were thrilled to have it back finally with Season 2, but that excitement was cut short.

Black Ops 6 removes Gun Game

On March 20, Treyarch added Season 2 Moshpit back into multiplayer, which features all five maps added this season. In addition, Infected was added back to the game. These additions were welcomed with open arms but came at the cost of Gun Game, as it was removed.

Here is a look at every game mode currently available in the rotation.

  • Face Off Endurance Moshpit
  • Season 2 Moshpit
  • Infected
  • Prop Hunt
  • Gunfight

A simple fix would be to add Gun Game to Quick Play and allow players to select it themselves if they want to play. Treyarch has previously done this for removed modes like Stakeout 24/7, Nuketown 24/7, and Overdrive.

This presents the problem of dividing the player count across too many game modes. However, based on what we know about how popular BO6 is, that shouldn’t be an issue.

Treyarch didn’t provide a date for when Gun Game will be added back, but a good bet would be when Season 3 starts on April 3.
