Black Ops devs respond as PS5 ports are already full of cheaters

Treyarch has been forced to take action as the PS5 port of Black Ops 1 is already full of cheaters, just days after launch.

Although the original Black Ops is still playable on Xbox 360 and PS3, hackers have made the experience challenging for the average user. So, when Treyarch announced that a port of both BO1 and BO2 was coming to PS4 and PS5 with brand-new servers, many hoped they’d be able to relive the iconic shooters with no issues.

However, it quickly became clear that wouldn’t be the case. Players soon reported that lobbies were overrun with cheaters, including some that were able to earn themselves stacks of XP by joining Domination matches, blowing themselves up, and rapidly reaching max Prestige.

But this was far from the most egregious problem, as others reported that, in some cases, killing a hacker who had reached the maximum level would result in them earning huge amounts of negative XP. This would essentially reset their rank to below level 1, and since you must be level 1 at the start of multiplayer, this would lock them out of Black Ops altogether.

Treyarch responds to Black Ops port being overrun with hackers

The devs responded by disabling Domination in both standalone playlists and Ground War, as this is the main mode where the exploits take place. At the time of writing, the mode remains offline.

A few hours later, they shared another X post revealing that the “first phase of a fix to address an issue impacting player XP” had been rolled out on Black Ops.

First of all, affected playlists were “updated with a server-side fix,” in an effort to stop hackers from exploiting them so easily. They also boosted all players who were stuck on negative XP back up to level 20, allowing them to continue playing.

This is set to be step one in their fight against cheaters, as “additional mitigations will continue to roll out in future updates to further reduce these issues.”

All of these fixes so far have been exclusive to Black Ops 1, where the problems have been most rampant.
