Bloodborne’s 10th anniversary is today and the announcement of a remake or remaster looks incredibly slim, but fear not, there’s much to be excited about.
Many Bloodborne fans are close to giving up on a remaster, and I get it. Every time a State of Play show comes along, I dare to dream, but then the realization that it’s not coming soon sinks in, and it’s on to the next milestone. Afterward, there’s that frustrated voice that screams, “Is a patch really too much to ask?” and it’s easy to feel despondent.
Players are right; Bloodborne is getting left behind compared to other games from its era – and yes, it does deserve better. Today, Bloodborne turns ten years old, and if you’re expecting Sony or FromSoftware to pop up with some surprise good news, then I wouldn’t hold your breath. It might be Bloodborne’s birthday, but it’s likely just another Monday.
However, before that familiar feeling of disappointment comes creeping back in, all Good Hunters need to know a few things. First off, while Sony seems determined to skip all the relevant dates that would have made sense for a remaster announcement, I still think one is inevitable.
While I don’t envision a ground-up remake like Demon’s Souls got, a 4K, 60 fps patch will happen eventually. The fact is, it’s just not been a priority for Sony or FromSoftware. While both companies value the franchise, each has simply had its hands full with other games.
However, with Sony now the majority shareholder of FromSoftware’s parent company – something the developers are reportedly thrilled about, these two stars are now back in alignment, and they’re going to shine together. Here’s the thing, while Sony likely bought into Kadokawa for its anime and manga, there’s absolutely no way it has forgotten about Bloodborne.

Sony’s tease in the 30th Anniversary set tounges wagging.
Bloodborne and perseverance
While many fans were frustrated by Sony’s use of Bloodborne after that “Perseverance” moment during the PlayStation 30th anniversary show, this was a clear nod that the tech giant hears us. It didn’t have to mean something was coming immediately, it meant that we could relax, comfortable knowing that Bloodborne wasn’t done.
Now that Sony has more of a say in what FromSoftware is developing, a Bloodborne 2 is far more likely than it was before. It’s probably still a long way off, but if you’re Sony, setting FromSoftware the task of developing it is a no-brainer. Of course, From will need to juggle this alongside the Elden Ring franchise, but as both are cash cows, I’d wager the wheels are already in motion.
Sony and FromSoft could even surprise us, developing a new franchise that borrows from Bloodborne, a spiritual successor if you will (think Demon’s Souls to Dark Souls), but even if that’s the case, and it only has strands of Bloodborne’s DNA, then I’ll still take it. However, if I were a betting man, I’d wager something Yharnam this way comes – eventually.
Therefore, I’d encourage my fellow Good Hunters to join me in wishing Bloodborne a happy birthday and to take comfort in the knowledge that a sequel and a patch for the original game are not just still possible – they’re highly likely. Until then, never forget that Bloodborne’s influence lives on even outside of FromSoftware’s games.
Adventures like Lies of P, Thymesia, Lords of the Fallen, and even the upcoming AI Limit all contain some inspiration. So even if we lived in a world where more Bloodborne was highly unlikely, its legacy would continue. As fans, we’ve already waited ten years, we can wait a few more.
