Boston residents have been left petrified after a loud boom rattled their homes Saturday with police probing the 'bizarre' incident. 

Residents heard a 'loud bang' that shook buildings on Saturday around 2pm.  

The cause of the bang is currently under investigation, with the initial reports saying it may have come from the Brighton area, a Boston Police Department spokesperson told the Daily Mail. 

'I don't know [what it is],' the spokesperson said. 'I'm getting tons of calls.

'It's kind of bizarre.'  

Officers have been dispatched to the Brighton area and an active investigation is ongoing, police told the Daily Mail. 

Currently, authorities do not believe there is any active threat to civilians.
