A four-year-old boy was tragically struck and killed by a school bus in Wisconsin on the first day back after holiday break.

The unidentified boy was hit around 8:30am on Thursday in the parking lot of the Silver Spring Intermediate School in Lisbon, roughly 25 miles outside of Milwaukee.

The pre-kindergartner was transferring to a shuttle bus to be taken to Willow Springs Learning Center when the accident occurred.

The bus, operated by Dairyland, was carrying students at the time and the driver is said to be cooperating with authorities, according to WISN

Willow Springs parent Waleed Edoud said his five-year-old son was right in front of the victim at the time and was nearly hit.

'I don't know what happened but during the transfer, my son said the kid that's behind him got hit by the bus and it just missed him,' Edoud told the outlet.

'He's horrified. He's a little five-year-old... My kid was steps away from being the one.'

Edoud said he hates the morning transfer and that his young son is escorted by a chaperone from the middle school to the shuttle bus.

'My kids, every day, come home complaining about these bus drivers,' the father said.

Edoud said he is going to stop putting his kids on the bus, according to Fox 6

'They just have to stop doing this transfer stuff. That's it,' he told the outlet.

Another parent said they've been 'calling and complaining, but we keep getting brushed off.'

The bus company said: 'We offer our deepest condolences to the student's family, friends, and the Hamilton School community.

'Dairyland-Hamilton is fully cooperating with local authorities as they investigate this tragic accident, and we are in ongoing communication with our District partners.'

The school district shut down classes on Friday.
