Breaking: Judge says he must still approve sale of Infowars to The Onion

A federal judge said Monday he may hold an evidentiary hearing next month to help determine whether to approve the sale of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' media company to satirical publication The Onion.

Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez in Houston clarified the sale, which comes after a Nov. 13 auction, remains in limbo until such a hearing, when interested parties can make their case and he can decide which of Jones' assets, if any, can be sold. A date was not immediately set.

He also declined to immediately rule on Jones' request for a temporary restraining order to disqualify the Onion's bid, and said "whatever was status quo pre-auction remains status quo" — essentially allowing Jones to remain broadcasting from his flagship platform, Infowars, for the time being.

"Firing folks a week before Thanksgiving is not what we do, but it sounds like that's not what occurred," Lopez said. "Folks are continuing to work."

Another bidder, First United American Companies, a limited liability company affiliated with Jones' dietary supplements business, had challenged the results of the auction after it said it bid twice as much cash as the Onion.

I see this as a good thing.

Jones was and is going to lose everything in the first place with that Lawfare judgement of 1.5 Billion Dollars.

In the second place - Sandy Hook parents were never going to collect one thin dime.

And thirdly - this sale to the lowest bidder (and a juvenile satire site at that) is a big FU to these parents in that they were not gonna get any $$$. Especially now with this sale.

So yes, it’s a reprieve of sorts.

Gives Jones a month or so to get things in order.

He can broadcast and use the assets over the holidays,

he must still approve sale of Infowars to The Onion

I know it's really just a funny bit about how the English language works, but this headline seems to have two different meanings:

1) Judge is saying that no sale takes places until he approves the sale. He must approve the sale before it becomes a real thing. So things are up in the air at this point.

2) Judge is saying that he has received an offer he can't refuse, and no matter what the law says or how he feels about the situation, he has no real choice and he must approve the sale to The Onion. It's a done deal because he doesn't want his family to have a tragic accident.

The Federal Trustee committed multiple crimes. Now we are going to have rely on Trump and his AG to hold them accountable.

What assets? The judge has ruled Jones cannot file bankruptcy to avoid this judgement. The only asset he can have and will ever have is his residence.

Per AI....

Therefore, while Jones may continue to generate revenue from his media activities, any profits are likely to be claimed by the families until the debt is settled.

I think keeping the assets over the holidays is huge for him if you think about it.

Could be talking hundreds of thousands in business as it’s the busiest period of the year

Infowars.com as we know it will cease to exist after the sale.

Even if Jones can start a new site he will be unable to fund it. Any income or donations to Jones will be grabbed by the courts and given to lawyers.

I thought this all went to court because the secret bid by the Onion was lower than the highest bid and the judge took the lower bid?
